So what do you think the best musky state is in the United States, take in to account catch rate, size, number of lakes and such....also if you would post your reasons why....

My top choices are MN, WI, IN, and IL in that order. MN takes the cake for both numbers and size right now, with some lakes being simply incredible. WI is on the way back and I am happy to be assisting with the WDNR's stocking and tagging efforts. IN is going to be the new MN in a few years and IL may well do the same

Minnesota because they are huge!! We dont have the number of lakes but what we lack in quantity we far surpass in quality.

I said WI...the diversity of water is the kicker. Not too many other places where you can wake up and decide if you want to fish a major river system, deep trout water, 100 acre marsh, the Great Lakes, Flowages, or waters where Tigers are naturally occurring...and that's all within a 100 mile radius of my front door. Dreaming ahead a few years when more of a fishable population will hopefully exist in Winnebago.

I can make a Keilbasa outglide a Hughes River.
And if the muskies don't eat it, I will!

It's the garlic that makes the sausage
Hell, I'll just take a blank and stuff it inside a pig intestine.
You figure out how to rig it.

In all seriousness, I can't think of a BAD place to fish muskies. If they're there, I'll fish for them. I haven't fished in all (most) of the places listed, so I really can't make an educated vote as to where it is truly best. And 'best' means what? more? bigger? prettier? most out of the ordinary? It's very subjective. I wish I could be more like my 5 year-old and live purely for the moment - no matter what he is doing, or where he is, the very best thing in the world is always what he's currently involved in. I want muskie fishing to be just like that.
Relish the moment - you won't get it again.

Shep - anytime, the invite is standing.
Bytor - we know, but we don't like to gloat about it

Now all of you - go out and have the best time of your life. Now.
S.

I guess I should have known better. Recognizing the MN DNR for the excellent trophy fishery they have created statewide is unacceptable here.

Minnesota has an excellent muskie fishery thanks to the hard work of the fisheries folks, people like Paul Hartman and George Wahl and Muskies Inc, and a group of other dedicated anglers. Many of those folks are regulars here.

Try presenting your point of view without sarcasm and negative slant. It works.
