I'm sure you can have it figured out a bit after the first day.

| The water is very clear, so you'll have a tough time casting. One of the best tactics seems to be trolling 13" Grandmas or Believers. Three fish over 49" were caught on opening weekend using those methods. Good luck. |

| Thanks for the feedback. Packing tackle for trip to an unknown body of water is a challenge. I was looking for info on predominate structure type & water conditions.
Yeah, cast, reel repeat seems to work - imagine that?
We'll give the trolling approach some time too.

Dunno the exact address, but it's by the Luekens North Grocery store, the same road that the 71 south exit is off of Hwy 2, but you would go north at that exit. |

You mentioned that the water is very clear. Is that typical for early in the year out there? I've only fished Plant in the fall. I believe the earliest I've ever been on the lake has been late September and the water has always seemed a little on the dark side to me. By the way, I read the info on your brochure last night at our Brainerd Lakes meeting. Nice job!

| Thanks Aaron. I actually have never been to Plantagenet. I've sure seen some nice fish caught there over the years though. My brother has caught a 49x 26 and a 51.5x22 there. Someday I'll make it up there. I was told that right now the water is clear, and that trolling may be the best way to go. Who actually knows? Good luck, and thanks again. |

Yep, it's a pretty clear lake this time of year. I'd imagine it'll dirty up a little earlier than usual with the warm weather though. Still, it should be very clear this coming week still. Fun lake, big fish, unfortunately, it really got pounded last year- more than ever before.
Last year a lot of nice fish were caught trolling open water this time of year. |

| make sure to fish the bay by the boat ramp, it can sometimes be good early in the year, and fish the entire reed line from the mowed hill all the way to the left |

| I second the bay by the boatramp. If the weeds are not yet matted on the surface or the nasty junkweed that grows there in the summer, there can be alot of fish in there. There is a small point about two thirds of the way down the shoreline. Sometimes Ive seen a large musky hanging out in there. If you are syanding on the dock and look straight off the dock, you can see the little point I am talking about. |

| Thanks to those who contacted me. You're right, it's not a tough lake to locate structure on. We contacted a number of fish - all quality fish and saw some monsters. The group put 2x41" and 1x43". A few other fish on but got off.
Surface temps ranged from 68 to 73. Temps at 20' were around 63-64. Although we did have activity mid-day, most came at the low light times of the day.
Weed growth was just ok when we arrived but rocketed up as the week went on. I'll be back but probably make it a fall trip next time.
Mark in Blue water sports is a real nice guy - very helpful. Balsam Beach Resort was awesome too. |
