Lambeau and his Dad doubled today, and Sue and I got one. Everyone moved fish, and there were reports of lost fish, too. We met at 5 PM at the Comfort Inn and had a dinner and door prize giveaway, with over $400 in lures and hats given out thanks to Snowcrest, Beav's Basement Baits, OutdoorsFIRST and Chuck Nelson. The Outing was a complete success despite a blast of high pressure and NE winds that seemd to put the fish off some. We saw LOTS, just couldn't get them to convert.

This will be an annual event! The Hideout will host a last social around the night fire ring tonight as a send off for the anglers.

Big Fish for the Rhinelander Outing Muskie Plaque went to John Arrigoni fishing with Dave Jackley.

Pictures from the Outing will be added to the Album as they come in!

Here's one from the end of day 2, working our way back to the landing.
Steve and Sue were the most gracious hosts that anyone could ask for,
opening their house to everyone and putting their lives on hold for 3 days.
Thanks again to the two of you.

late breaking news...

ghoti scored a 42"er on Crescent Lake around 11am this morning.
too late for the "big fish" award, but at least the 40" limit got broken.
nice way to end the outing!

mike, steve, andrew .... thanks for a great time. hosts steve and sue ... can't thank you enough for the welcome to your home and the fire ring. i look forward to the next one and happy to hear this will become an annual event. sounds like the dumb fish finally opened their mouth today, congratulations ghoti ... and i sincerely hope those that shared the boat and came with me had a good time ... sometimes you just do everything you can do and only get to enjoy watching them swim, turn and swim away ... i'll take that over not doing it at all though ... of course except for the stupid fish that straightened the hooks on the stump field of dreams ... i swear that place is haunted!

Great Outing!!! I wish I could have spent more time on the water and made it to the Hideout for at least one night though. The fishing was below par, I did manage to boat a 37.5 while waiting for Esoxlady out on Crescent on friday which was a plus. I also had one of those cool moments on the water where I had a 20 inch walleye eat a Jonesi Special Bleeding Shad Wizz only to have a low to mid forty inch musky take exception and bite the poor walleye in the tail at boatside. Fished with Pointerpride on Sat. evening and we blanked on Crescent but congrats Ghoti, Nice fish!! To all that put this event on thank you, alot of work goes into something like this event, Steve and Sue hats off to you!!!!:) Chuck Nelson is without a doubt the busiest man I know and the most generous as well, thanks for all the stuff Chuck!!! Nice to meet you all!! Mauser, Steve Jonesi would like another bottle of W.V. cooking oil!! I hope you and Mikie get the truck fixed and make it home by late fall!!:)

Thanks to every one who put this together, especially sue and steve for being good hosts. Thanks beaver and snowcrest and chuck nelson for donating all that great stuff. I really enjoyed meeting some new faces and talking to some old ones, no pun intended. Thanks sled for a little education on the boom. Over all a very fun weekend, I'm going to get back out on the river tonight and give it one last shot.

Here's a photo of ghoti & his 42". I'd just finished a cast and glanced over at Jim who was fishing about a 100yds away & saw him set the hook, + nice job of netting it himself.

Thanks to Steve & Sue and the MF crew for a nice outing. Definitely going to do it again next year. Even with the limited time I got to fish, I did get to see a couple of really nice fish on Friday behind the Alien.

Have fun!
Al

Way to go Jim! Did it have anything to do with me not being in the boat?

I want to thank everyone for making me feel welcome at my first outing.
Steve, andrew and Mike, great job. I look forward to next year.

Thanks to all for organizing this event. Lots of hard work by you all. I will be back next year and hopefully other MuskieFIRST outings. Too bad the weather was challenging to say the least. We were fortunate to double on Friday morning with a 37 and 33 within 8 minutes of eachother. DaveJ aka Sparkles you ROCK!

Yeah & if you found the weather conditions challenging there was always great conversation's or even some entertainment in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn.

I'm not talkin about Papa Joe's sun burnt legs either!

What a Great Time !!

So many people deserve a huge Thank-You for their work in organizing this event and making sure everyone was well taken care of. Special thanks to Steve and Sue for opening up their home to us- to Lambeau for organizing the many of the details of this outing, and to Chuck Nelson for taking care of our reels and feeding us - the Salmon and Squaw corn were really tasty.

For those who were fortunate enough to catch muskie, it was a bonus to a great outing where new friendships were forged and memories made among this group within the MuskieFirst community.

I'll definately be back next year !

:)

Oh yeah- before I forget! A very special thank you to a couple of local guys who really shared information with us Rhinelander novices. Chuck Nelson is a real first class act! This guy is one of the best. Even though I don't fish with Abu's - his seminar was top notch! I could see all the ABU guys nodding there heads like one of those bobble heads as Chuck was speaking. Given how complex my Shimano's Curado's are- I may now switch! Plus the smoked Salmon & squaw corn were also first rate. Thanks Chuck!

Special thanks to Dave Jonesi - he shared tips & marked my map of Cresent & other lakes in the Rhinelander area. His map marks & tips were right on target. He is another first class act! If you get a chance to share a boat with either Chuck or Dave don't turn it down.

Gene & Judy it was a pleasure to meet you- have fun in Canada.

ghoti- likewise a real pleasure!

Have fun!

Just got back home, fished 3 lakes on the way- the 1 1/2 hr. trip took 13 hours Would like to thank all those involved in the outing. It was a blast, even though the fishing was a little slow. A special thanks to Steve and Sue for their hospitality, lambeau for all the work in the planning, Chuck for the great food and informative talk, John and Dave for all the great local info and map marking, Beaver and Snowcrest for all the donated lures (glad I won the infamous turd), Al Warner for being gracious enough to get a picture for me, and last but not least, Norm, for teaching his new attention geting figure 8 move. It was great to put faces with the board names. For those of you that missed this year, plan to make it next year, you won't be disappointed!

A HUGE thanks to those who put the outing together. Great people. All of you who showed hospitality and generosity. This was the first MF outing for myself and Stanley. We both loved getting to meet the faces behind the names on the board. Too bad we had to leave sat afternoon. Partnering up w/Magruter via the MF board was cool. A neat way to meet new people as well. I know others did the same as well. Cant wait for the next outing I can attend.

Aside from the weather, had a great time. The Mrs agrees.
I'll be there next year for sure. Gail's not sure, it's a busy time at work and she was worried about stuff that had to be done there.
Fished Boom Sunday morning before we left and I whiffed a strike as I was trying to turn the trolling motor, read the locator and retrieve at the same time. Caught a couple small pike too. I moved fish every day even though I never slimed the net. And when we were out with Norm, Gail had something swirl at boatside too.
Glad to hear everyone made it home safe.

Thanks to all who contributed in making this a great outing.
Steve/Sue
Lambeau
Slamr/Crash
Snowcrest
Chuck Nelson and his Mrs.
Norm Wild for the information and the boat time (I'll be calling you later this summer)

It was great to meet some old friends and meet some new ones too.

And how could I forget Beav. That man is top notch. What a riot. Thanks for the use of the reel too. My Amma is perfect, thanks a bunch for all the work.

Scott

Had a great time!!! Thank you to Sue and Steve for opening their doors and giving us a place to drink, crash, and meet each other face-to-face! The hideout is a great place to call second home. Thanks to Mike for organizing the details of the event, the map pack was a very nice touch. Chuck your seminar helped a newbie like me, ALOT, thanks! (thanks for calling dorns too, I'll be seeing Jason something this week.) Sled thanks for taking Karl and I out on the river, I can see the potential out there! I'll be giving you a call later in the year! Karl, thanks for driving, letting me share your boat, hell I even got to putt around the lakes. I think we made it home in record time, 2hours and 30 minutes! Too bad we didn't score anything on your matchfishing day, 0-19!! Last and least :P Slamr!! Thanks for bringing extra beer! Glad you got to slim your boat the first time out! I didn't even think you knew how to muskie fish! :P Had an AWESOME time, will definatly be looking forward to next year!

Thank you Steve, Lambeau, Slamr, Sue, Theedz, and everyone else that helped get this thing going. The weather surely didn't cooperate much, but I had a great time with some awesome people in my boat.

Theedz, you and your wife are welcome anytime, but no more bananas in the boat!! If anyone needs to find some wind, invite Ghoti to come fish with you. He can blow up whitecaps on a toilet bowl. And ten hours on the water with Mikie and Mauser......need I say more (Mauser, what part of the dog did you get?)???

Unfortunatley, the outing ended a day early. The fish started to eat pretty well on Sunday. All the lookers were now turning into eaters. Clients boated two on Sunday with two others hooked and lost.

Already looking forward to next years outing!

if you want to keep your prop out of the rocks, just stay away from Norm...

great great time, thanks to everyone for being so dang cool.
special thanks go to Snowcrest and Beav for supplying prize lures, Chuck Nelson for great food and info and opening the store up, MuskieFIRST and Tuffy boats for pizza, and all the local guides for being SO generous with their time and information: marking maps and taking people out on the water: Jon Solberg, Dave Jonesi, Chuck Nelson, Norm Wild, Steve Worrall...Rhinelander is home to some of the best muskie fishermen in the world and we got to soak in some of their wisdom.

Soooooo, they start biting when the Southern contingent heads outta town? Go figure.
We got back safe last night around 2 am. Had a flat tire on the boat tailer, the Carlysle busted a belt and went down for the count, fortunately the spare got us home. In the midst of corn country, Ill. a gentleman pulled us over to tell us the belt looked bad - what a great country! It went flat an hour later just before the Interstate. A trailer light came off but some duck tape and we were on the road again. Had a great time, more later but great big thanks to all who came and especially Norm, Steve & Sue, Tony G. and everyone else who put up with us for the trip. thanks a whole bunch, can't wait for next year (maybe, a week later???). m

I have to add one more thing.
Yes, it was great to meet so many of you guys. I always was hogging Sworrall's boat, but we don't get to see each other much, and they are always times that I will never forget. You guys only see the nice, friendly, generous guy. That's just his salesmen side I've known him for a long time, and what you see, you have to multiply ten-fold on the human being scale. We either talk non-stop, or say nothing. We are always hoping that the other guy catches the bigger fish.....or in our case, the correct species. Because I did kick his butt in the bass fishing tourney. I could have weighed a 15-17 pound limit on Friday, but he wouldn't have lost by much. He works his butt to the bome when it comes to selling boats, and making sure that he can do whatever he possibly can to do it right, as promised and on time. He really cares about what he does. Another thing that he pours himself into is this site. You guys should only know the half of what he does to make it, without a doubt, the #1 site around. The rest of you other guys from other sites, go ahead and take your shots, because they mean nothing. (Laura, you know that I'm not talking about your site, or you.)
One last thing....didn't I start with that? Next year, "The Cooler" will be filled with a greater quantity and larger variety. BTW, a version of The Cooler will be going to Wabigoon though I won't be. Sworrall will be bringing it with "Beaverages" just right for The Goon.
It was great meeting as many of you as I did, and next year I'm bringing a swimsuit and sneaking into the hot tub at the hotel. The hell with the morning meetings. I'm starting my day with a steam and a whirlpool.

As always when I attend an outing with Andrew, I'm amazed at how open and friendly the attendees are among people they've only ever talked to online. It's always great to meet new people and put faces with the posts here on the board. This outing was a really great time, and I think it's a testament to the people who attended that everyone had such a great time despite the fact that fishing conditions weren't ideal and no a lot of fish were caught.

A HUGE thanks to Steve and Sue, both for putting us up for the weekend and for your hospitality in general. I am really convinced there aren't two nicer people in the world... you're always welcoming and gracious and patient and helpful. And Sue makes great breakfasts!

I am definitely already looking forward to next year.

Crash McG

*Also, as I'm sure Andrew will post sometime... our new boat ROCKS!!!
