Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Be safe, have fun, enjoy fishing, family, and friends. On Monday remember why this holiday exists. Regardless of political opinion, we enjoy our freedom in big part because of the sacrifices of others. Give thanks to those who are serving, those who have served, and a prayer/reflection for those who gave all. To Sponge, Shep, Cory Painters brother, my neighbor Mike who leaves for Iraq next week, and others I don't know... Your service to the country is appreciated. Thank you.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Both my mom and dad were in the Army in WWII. That's mom in the center at a club in San Fran before they shipped out on a medical ship. Dad was in the Corps of Engr. in the Phillipenes, and they met in Japan after the occupation. They truly were part of The Greatest Generation. m Edited by mikie 5/27/2006 1:24 PM Attachments ---------------- scan0017.jpg (68KB - 79 downloads)

Posts: 2865 Location: Brookfield, WI | My father served in the Eighth Air Force in England during WWII. He put the bombers back together so they could continue the daily and nightly raids over Germany. The attrition rate was horrible during the first couple years, and he lost a lot of friends. Until the day he died, he regretted being on the ground putting those planes together, instead of being in one doing what he really thought was his duty. I miss him and greatly admire what he and those like him stood for. Thank you to all the men and women who have served or are serving this country. Kevin

| My wife lost an uncle in the Eighth in WWII. Your father was lucky to come back, that unit suffered big losses. Edited by pete_k 5/28/2006 4:45 AM | |||

Posts: 5874 | Thanks, Mark, for the thoughts. I served in the Air Force, and I will be forever grateful to those who gave their lives for our freedom. I hope the young people in this great country realize how many, gave so much, that their future will be secure. Have a great weekend, and be safe. Edited by Shep 5/29/2006 7:37 AM
