Location: Sheboygan Falls, WI | Hey John,
I can tell you a few differences in the Abu's and what I know about the Croix.
Record 50: 6 bearings, 6.3:1 gear ratio, NO magnetic brake, 11.6 ounces, 135yds of 12lb. Syncronized Level Wind. ($130)
Abu 5600EXT: 4 bearing, 5.3:1 gear ratio, YES magnetic brake, 9.6 ounces, 180yds of 14lb. One piece extruded aluminum frame. Disengaging Level Wind. ($170)
Abu 5600EXT-PRO: 7 bearing, 6.5:1 gear ratio, YES magnetic brake, 9.8 ounces, 135yds of 12lb. One piece extruded aluminum frame, Vented spool like on the Record 50. Disengaging Level Wind. ($180)
I know little about the specs on the St. Croix, but I do know that it has a disengaging level wind.
The difference between a disengaging level wind and a syncronized level wind is this. When casting, the line guide on the disengaging level wind stops moving. On a syncronized level wind, the line guide moves back and forth on the cast.
Hope this helps a little.
