Location: Des Plaines, IL | What is the worst weather you would go fishing in? For myself I won't launch if the wind is more than 25mph and doesn't look like it is going away. Rain & snow don't bother me, ( I've been told I won't melt) |

| I leave it to my Polish intuition, or common sense as we like to call it.
I don't draw a limit on mph or size of the waves or how hard it is raining or snowing.
I've fished in stuff that I shouldn't have, and I'm lucky enough to be typing about it right know.
I tend to error on the safe side.
I have good rain gear, so water is no issue, but I've also seen a guy get nailed by lightning when there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
I keep my NOAA radio in the boat at all times and I'm not affraid to use it.
We've all done the same stupid things. Fished a stretch of water with a storm approaching and moved a couple of nice fish. So what do we do? We go right back and push the envelope and try to get 'em to go and before we know it, we are in 3 foot rollers with trecherous wind gusts, instead of being at the dock where we belong.
Use your head for something besides a chunk of bone to keep your hat on.

| if it's blowing 40 plus....i wont go.
25 MPH..BRING IT ON...that aint too bad at all really.
i dont mess w/ lightening...
Tornado's are too bad..unless you are directly in the path...
so.. my limits..i guess a constanct 45 to 50 mph wind would keep me off and lightening..
snow good, rain good, hail-sleet-freezing rain good, 105 degree w/ zero wind GOOD.
if you fished pressured lakes, you'd LOVE the bad weather. it keeps all the fair weather wusses off the water.

Location: Des Plaines, IL | I agree tomcat, on bad weather days I go to the busiest and most presured water ways kwoning that most of the waterskiers/jet skiers/pontooners and normal(sane) fisherman won't be out on the water. |

Location: Madison Wi. Chain | I always try to keep in mind that it is a hobby and something I do for fun. I really don't like battling wind and heavy rain. I tend to stay off of the lake in heavy winds, extreme cold and thunder storms. BG |

Location: lansing, il | lightning!!!!!! call me chicken $#!+ but one good bolt and im gone!!! last year fished a river and later found out there were tornados all around us. probablly would have bolted if we had known. "boy that sky sure looks funny" jonny wind is your friend huh??? you mean like on eagle last year??? 30-40 mph screw it, theres no wind in a tavern! |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | The only thing that keeps me off the water is lightning. One of the joys of being a guide, if the clients have paid money you have to put them on fish, and smile while you do it. If the wind is too extreme to fish bigger lakes like Pelican I take them to smaller lakes where the wind is not as much of a factor. Bitter cold, pouring rain, howling winds, scorching hot, I have to fish them all. |

| I dont like lightning...pretty much nothing else will scare me off a lake
big wind can get old, but it wont keep me off the water

Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | I remember fishing league a few years back on the Sugar Camp Chain and our rods started to hum, line was sorta floating out there on the cast and for the one time in my life I decided to pull the plug and get the hell off the water. Lightning kills ya !! |

| Hey if I have to work in it, I am going to play in it. Lightning is a bummer. I have done -40 wind chills ice fishing on Bay de Noc for 3 days and nights camping and survived. If I think the fish are biting I will take what mother nature deals out.

| This topic brought up a good idea from my Polish brain.
If we can get weather radio, and GPS systems, why can't we get local doppler radar?
I've heard warnings for certain counties, but when I'm out of State, I don't always know where those counties are.
You can get doppler radar on the web with no problem, but I'm not buying a laptop to serve the purpose.
I think Garmin, Laworance and the others should give it some serious thought.
Imagine a GPS that pinpoints your location with a radar loop.
Since most lightning strikes happen 2-5 miles in front of and behind the storm system, I figure that my life was worth what they would charge.
I've been out on a sunny day and had the rods humming and the line going up instead of down after the cast. By the time I started the outboard, the first bolt went overhead and almost blew out my eardrums......never again.
Hey all you electronics reps.......ask your sponsors what it would take to have such a gadget, please.

Lightning for sure will pull me off the water. If on big water I will try and watch or listen to forecast for wind speed and direction.

Location: Highland, IN | Thunderstorms won't bother me , but a t/storm with lightning will keep me off the lake. Small lakes the wind doesn't keep me off , but living at the southern tip of Lake Michigan the wind will if it's N or NE. Been caught a few too many times out there with some 6 ft or better waves when the wind picked up. |
