Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | This past Sunday of the Opener I got to spend some time with family on the water. I took out my son and daughter, Ryan(my daughters boy friend) and my niece Kaitlan. Ya, a mid day boat load. We were casting and dragging suckers. One of the sucker rods started to pull line and we were quick to get hooks into the 36-inch muskie. As the muskie was netted the sound of a clicker was ringing out again. My son Mike was quick to get hooks into his 40-inch muskie while I was clearing the first muskie out the net. With the wind blowing us into the shore line very soon I placed the first muskie in the livewell and got ready to net the second fish. As the second fish got closer to the boat I watched the line tighten up on the remaining sucker rod and quickly grabbed that rod, engaged the reel and thumbed the spool while setting the hooks into the third muskie. The muskie I had hooked was only 6ft from the end of the rod and trashing on the top of the water. My son Mike pulled his muskie toward the net and I reached under my muskie with the net and under my sons fish at the same time. By now we were almost into the rocks and I had Ryan work the motor slowly back out as I quickly cut all hooks and placed the muskies in the livewell so they would not drag in a compressed net while we safely moved away from the rocks. As soon as we got out enough to safely release the fish I had each one of us grab a fish and take a quick photo to preserve the memory. My daughter Krystina did a great job getting a awsome photo. All three fish were caight and released so fast that it was a blur for all of us. The best part of the whole thing is that it all went so smooth that I can't believe nothing got tangled, hooked or just botched in some way. I wanted to fish more so bad after that BUT we just put 3 muskie in the livewell and that by some rules is considered 3 kept fish. I know it's a grey area but with all that action and 5 people and a dog in the boat I figured it was time to clean up the mess and go get some supper. It was already a long weekend. I started out fishing with my son and Ryan around 11am Sunday. About a hour later Ryan got to catch a 38-incher after it followed in his twitch bait and ate the following sucker. We then picked up my daughter and my niece Kaitlan so they could enjoy the weather while we fished Please don't read any more into this. It was the wildest 5 minutes of muskie action I have ever been a part of. I am blessed to get to share it with my family. I guess this was a female muskie and her two males. The first fish was a male and then the female, the other male must have felt left out so it whacked the first thing it could. It just showes how crazy males will get when its that time. Kind of like rut for deer, they just don't think normal. Attachments ---------------- HPIM0425 copy2.jpg (101KB - 111 downloads)

Posts: 381 | Great job! What I have found when she eats, they will eat! I have had this happen when 2 or 3 fish follow if you get one off the spot, one of the others will eat! Edited by nxtcast 5/8/2006 6:18 PM

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Happy hooker, It was around 4pm. Wind and sky conditions stayed the same most of the afternoon. Prime time was around 2pm on Sunday I believe, thats why I did the afternoon and slept in. I am thinking it was just a female and her males. He ate, she ate, and the last guy was not going to be left out. Quick-strike rigs allowed it to happen because I didn't have to wait to set the hooks and bring them in. Thanks for all the good replys. I loved that it was with my son, daughter, neise and daughter boy friend. Very, very cool, for sure. I hope they bite tonight when I get out with "Big Gun".

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Way to go Mike! It's always cool to get a family member a fish, but to get three fish at once with a bunch of family members in the boat is way too cool. Hopefully this is only a sign of things to come for the Extreme One's boat this year!

Wow, that is a story that will be hard to beat. Three fish in the boat all at the same time is unheard of. I just wonder if it has ever happened before. Great job Mike. I will have to look you up and here the story in person. Maybe we can get out fishing.

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | To have it happen with my kids in the boat was soooo cool. I have had a couple muskies at a time twice. Trolling crank baits last year and the other time was the opener in 2004 on suckers. Quick-strike rigs.........when the bite is on...........no time to wait.
