Location: So. Illinois | I'm headed to Patoka lake Indiana next week with a friend to do some bass fishing. I saw a posting on the web that said there were some muskies in the lake. Is it worth my time to bring muskie gear to fish for them.? I'd appreciate any info from anyone who may know this lake.

The above web site indicates Tiger Muskie and Northerns are present but not common.

| I've fished Patoka lake on a regular basis for the last six years. I can tell you....that there at one time, a ways back, there might have been some northerns/tiger muskies in there. There certainly has not been any focus of any money being spent on any stocking programs for that lake with either of those species in mind. The DNR is going a different route with stocking different species in that lake and Muskies of any blend and northerns are not on that list anymore.
"IF" by the off chance that someone would find a stray northern left...would be really odd. That lake gets way too warm for northerns. Northerns like cooler water than muskies.
I wouldn't bother wasting your time or efforts trying to focus on what really isn't there. Sure....some old maps and postings still say and report northerns and the such...but.....in reality...they're no longer there.
Focus on the bass and crappies and have a blast!
