Posts: 7090 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Day 2 dawned vastly different from Day 1, with clear skies, cold winds and lowered temperatures. With these tough fish-catching conditions, 130 boats in the PMTT Cave Run qualifier fought for a total of $32K, with the winner bringing home nearly $17K. Rain, winds and a large Friday dip in temperature had made Day 1 a rough day for anglers, seeing only 13 fish registering legal fish. Patterns seemed to change for a large portion of anglers, though a number of teams were able to produce with strategies derived from pre-fishing. Big fish of the day for Day 1 had been 43.25, and one team had doubled, leaving it wide open for all in competition. At day's end on Day 1, temperatures were 53 degrees with cloudy skies, but Mother Nature had a few more surprises in store for Day 2. Thirty-three degrees and cloudless skies had anglers scrapping a thick layer of frost off boats and gear alike. Instead of short sleeves and suntan lotion as in year's past, anglers were breaking out cold weather gear and gloves. Fisherman and fish both reacted negatively to the cold, with registered fish declining from 12 fish on Day 1 to six on the second day of competition. Feeding windows were short, with the two largest fish of the day caught within seven minutes of each other. No specific patterns were successful overall, with a few more fish caught trolling, but still a number of nice fish caught casting. Crankbaits brought fish to seven of 13 teams that made it into the Top 10. Ultra-slow trolling over grass was the key to the winner's circle. Pulling shad raps as slowly as the boat would go under power, fish hit both just over and just off the main break. Shad-colored baits did the trick, as team #91, Russell Schneider and James Wells, captured first place for a nearly $17,000 cash prize. The next event will be held May 12 and 13 on the Petenwell FLowage in central Wisconsin. This is the first year of the Pete hosting a PMTT trail event. MuskieFIRST will be in attendance providing musky anglers the most up-to-date information as possible. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 7090 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Thanks to the PMTT for the great access to all the anglers, the results, and information! Look for MuskieFIRST Coverage of the Petenwell Qualifier, May 12-13th and go to http://www.promusky.com for information of the ins and outs of this event. I believe there are a number of open spots still, and with this being the first year on this body of water for the PMTT, it's anybody's game!
