Posts: 1316 Location: Madison, WI | Well i was watching this video: http://www.fishfever.com/node/50 This guy grabs the muskie turns it upside down and the fish calms down right away. I've watch a couple discovery channel's shark week where they have insane people grabbing sharks turning them upside down and they immediately go limp. I'm just wondering if this works for muskies? Was this a rare case or Can you hand land a fish turn him upside down to calm him down to remove the hooks without having to get the net?

| I've done it on 40-45" Northerns...it works on them. I don't know why it wouldn't work on muskies.... b | |||

Meaning that - yes, they did seem to calm somewhat and as long as they remained undisturbed, they stayed that way, but trying to extract hooks managed to disturb them for some reason I decided that a good net was better for both the fish and potentially myself. When you have a partner that knows what they are doing, it's a reasonably good method, because it is better done as a 2 person operation...but inexperience has a way of inviting Murphy through the door - and he always brings his dang Laws.... That elicited an escape reaction that was pretty violent, and I ended up hooked up twice to the wrong one. This last time I got hooked to a gooder one. Be careful out there, and don't trust them to do anything expected, as about the time you do they will do something entirely unexpected.
