| I was camping in northern Wisconsin, August 1978, on my honeymoon with my first wife. We were bumming around and ended up walking the shoreline of Lake Buckatoban. I had an ultralight spinning rig and was catching some bluegills for dinner that night when a muskie slammed a bluegill I was reeling in. It totally destroyed my tackle, and when I retrieved that poor bluegill, it looked like someone went nuts on it with an icepick! The next day, I bought a muskie rod and a baitcasting rod, a couple spinners and went back looking for that BEAST! Well, I did land that monster, all 35 inches of him :) I couldn't help but admire how long and sleek he was, how many teeth there were and how sharp they were. The colors were astonishing and those eyes...I couldn't get over how piercing they were. He seemed to look at me, saying, "Well, you won this time, but wait till I get bigger!" I couldn't keep him, but I didn't want to release him either. So I held him in the water until he pulled out of my hands and disappeared. Since then, hundreds of muskies have been caught, but none more important than that first one. And it's led me on an interesting journey, from casual angler to dedicated and obsessed guide. The fishing bug bit so hard that I ended up moving to northern Wisconsin and it might have even caused me my first marriage! So here I am successfully guiding, building custom rods, knowing more about fishing than I ever expected to (and wanting to learn even more), writing articles and even appearing on tv! What a long, strange trip it's been.... Steve @ G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods. http://www.herefishyfishy.com | |||

| I grew up fishing for Northerns, and Walleyes. One day I was out with a friend of mine on Forest Lake, and I was trolling a Bucktail. All of the sudden the fish hit, and went around my boat at about 50 feet out. I brought it in, and released the 35" guy. Then I bought a few muskie baits, and tried for them ever since. This year I am getting serious, and will enter a couple tournaments. I also want to take my 6 year old son fishing for Muskies. I told him I would cast the lure out, and all he has to do is reel it back in, and hold onto the rod. I am going to try him out on a nice little 200 acre lake, that I know the structure on, and hopefully I can get him adicted to Muskie fishing. Lance | |||

| I grew up on Plum lake in Vilas Co. My dad was a school teacher and guided for a Texas oil company, with a place on Plum lake, in the summer. Evenings and weekends we would fish and when I was six or seven he introduced my to muskies. I can still remember in the first year or so casting a jitter-bug and having a huge wake come up behind the lure only to have the fish disappear after I quit reeling. Tim | |||

| It's hard to say when it started for me but through most of the 70's we went to eagle lake every year. I only seen one fish one year which for several days could get to follow my baits off the dock. We mostly fished walleye and northern untill our last year there when my dad and grandfather caught the bug. After that I caught my first few the year shabbona opened up. As I got older I got into my other love besides fishing and more expensive auto racing. Then I got married and divorced and went right into heavy musky fishing when I bought my boat in 98. No turning back now. | |||

| My dad raised me with a shotgun in one hand and a fishing rod in the other. It was only natural for me to "advance" to the bigger game. Instead of squirrels and bluegills, it's now whitetails and muskys. Wouldn't have had it any other way. | My grampa brought home a few muskies every year. He talked a good game but spent to much time in the bars than over them. When I was 12 he caught a 49"er, which made the wall in his basement. He always told me he was going to take me muskie fishing but never did. I looked at it everytime we were there. By the time that I was 16, I was pretty accomplished at catching most all kinds of fish except muskies. My buddy and I were whitebass fishing on the Wolf River. I was taking my time bring one into the boat when 20#'s plus came out from under the boat in an attempt to scale the bass! That summer I returned to that spot and caught my first legal, 34", not the same fish but on 6# test and a buggy whip rod it was quite a thrill. I haven't been the same since! | |||

| I kinda started out using some bass equipment at the time I thought was considered to be muskie equipment but, Casting a fire tiger mepps musky killer I feel a stop in my retrieve and then a moment later I know this is something more than the regular snag. Using 20 pound mono filement this fish jump about 10 feet in front of the dock in front of me and a few shakes of the head and the line was snapped like that. I forget what the fish looked like but must of been a pretty nice fish. From then on I have been hooked. I caught my first trolling a 10" jake along a weedbed. | |||
