Dont we all have to vote in the county we reside in? I thought this was the case.

You can vote in any county in the state as long as you are a resident

Anyone coming up 45 through or near Clintonville, or near Shawano...I am trying to find a way to make it up there.

If I can, would be interested in car pooling (or I suppose a bus would be ok too).

The meeting is held simultaneaously in each county to discourage multiple votes from the same individual. Attend the meeting at the location of your closest county and you have a vote for the pending legislations! The Pelican Lake vote should be up in every Wisconsin county.

You must only be a Wisconsin resident to vote for members of the Conservation Congress, not to vote on any pending legislation.

I believe ANYONE 18 or older CAN vote on the pending fish and game legislation. You do NOT need to be a Wisconsin resident! That would mean that the counties along the border could have votes from MN and IA on the west, IL on the south and the UP'rs on the north.

Possibly Steve Worrall, Norm Wild or Mike Roberts can clarify for all.

From the “DNR Spring Wildlife & Fisheries Rules Hearing and Conservation Congress County Meeting” website on the WDNR server.

http://dnr.wi.gov/org/nrboard/congress/springhearings/

Individuals who have an interest in natural resource management are encouraged to attend the hearing in their county. However, if you are traveling and are away from your county, you can attend a hearing in a different county, but you are only able to give your opinion vote on the questions. Below is an outline of how the hearings/meetings will be conducted.

Registration
Individuals attending the Spring Hearings will need to register, they will be given a Spring Hearing questionnaire that contains Department of Natural Resources proposed fishing and hunting rule changes, Natural Resource Board and Conservation Congress advisory questions along with a white ballot where citizens can cast their non-binding vote on advisory questions in the questionnaire. Individuals will also be given a blue ballot to be used on resolutions introduced on the floor by other citizens. Individuals in attendance that are residents of the county that they are attending the hearing/meeting in have the opportunity to nominate, run and elect other citizens to the Conservation Congress.

This is the first year where ballots will be issued it was always a show of hands vote in the past. You have to Register to get a ballot but you do not need to stay for the entire meeting to vote, like you did in the past. If you are limited in time please just show up register, fill out the ballot, turn it and take off, shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to a half an hour depending on the number of people.

The Pelican Lake question is A Proposed Local Fisheries Rule Chanes question. We where told that the Oneida County vote will be the most important, then the surrounding counties. If it passes State Wide but fails in Oneida County and the surrounding counties, it will probably not make it to the next step. If it passes in Oneida County and the surround counties and fails Statewide the rule change will probably go though. So it is VERY important to get people to show up and vote in Oneida County, if you can’t make it all the way to Rhinelander, please get as close as possible, and at the very least show up at your local meeting to vote.

Every vote counts. Remember you can just fill out your opinions on the Musky issues and leave, if you don’t have the time to stay for the discussion.

Thanks
