Ok so now that everyone should be caught up on thier weagle fix and such.....i thought i'd give an in depth review of the baby weag//Jailbait. I got 3 of them at the pittsburgh show, and had an opportunity to try them this past weekend. but first, i asked steve at the show, what kind of sound they make. he said "Ploosh". ok then..onwards and upwards with the the "Ploosh" Gear used Rods: 7'3 Esox Rod BU model 6'10" Esox Rod JB model Line: 80 power pro #174 homemade leaders and heavy (250) swivels and #5 staylok snaps cardiff 301's -first off, they cast FAR! good for the ol' Fenner "snap jig" technique -both rods worked fine with this, as i imagine any rod that can handle baits 2-3 ounces. -it took literally 15 SECONDS to get adjusted to it and get it marching and "plooshing" -slow is better, as with any weagle, but can be worked fast, and worked REALLY well fast. -i had a hard time TRYING to mess up the retrieve...they just really stay up on top nice, but the Jailbait will, if done correctly, dive and stay under once u get the hang of that....nice little twist there -i did NOT foul up on the leader once, and i casted it about an hour total (probably about 75 casts or so?). something should be said of this for honorable mention....they are very articulate and pronounced once it hits the water. the "ploosh" -how in the F does he get it to make those sounds?????....like Joker said to Batman "where do you get such wonderful toys?" i always wonder this about our beloved Ratbelly....the mojo is there with these, fellas, even though you might gripe cuz they're made of plastic, it's there. it will catch me fishies, and hopefully several this year for you guys too. -speaking of which....i know one topwater lure i'll be throwing a lot this year that i won't need to reseal every 3 days....this is the one. -i have to say, the sound is like a mini-"swoosh", very startling and you can still hear it 30 yards away. -the action is a shorter, or should i say more stout side to side......this makes it really good for working fast, but like i said, slow is better for me anyway. what else should i say...hmmmm OH i know the day i was out, it was windy....i was on the Allegheny River from shore....1 foot waves due to eastern winds (?), whatever, it was windy as all heck. i could still hear the bait, and it was stirring up a commotion thru the waves just as well as when the water calmed down. all in all, i'd rate it a 10/10 easily.... i told someone i like it better than the weagles for a few reasons: -it WILL not tire you out -hands down, its just SOPOOOO easy to work, NO learning curve if you have any experience throwing this type of bait, and very easy to learn for a beginner i would think. -i can give this to a beginner and have confidence they will see fish as well as a seasoned vet.....HE built it, they will come! ok, now for the downside: -u might lose a few of these inside your lakewood monster, just carry an extendable antenna magnet, it works for me! -my bass buddies are all going to want to steal mine! -now i'll have to get 8 of THESE too, and once people learn what they can do with this, they'll be 60 bux on ebay also. -smaller fish MIGHT want to interfere with your quest for the big girls, not a bad thing, cuz most of these smaller fish on bigger baits in my experience tend to be 20" smallmouth and 30 inch 'eyes...nice bonus. All in all.............Devil, Indeed....inside. ps. they're available too!!! Edited by The Yeti 2/1/2006 1:39 AM | |||
