Location: Elk River, Minnesota | O.K...quite obvious the feelings on the spray record are definitely split, but is the WRMA also sending this information to the IGFA as well? Seems to me that if the IGFA also shows records of world class fish of ALL species fresh and saltwater, they have nothing to gain or lose by declaring a different record as being valid, if substantial proof/data has been found showing a current record is false.
Trying not to be biased here, but wisconsin (hayward especially) has something to lose in this, and could forsee those involved/passionate about the record, fighting anything that questions those records in place whether true or falsified. Hayward would no longer be able to claim the record(s), which I am sure adds to their tourism industry. I could see this as going on for a long time. WRMA shows it's proof/argument, the NFWFHF, refutes it, and the "war" so to speak, goes on. In all the banter, I feel this would defeat the whole purpose of the NFWFHF and esentially ruin thier credibility as a record keeping body if enough evidence/proof has been shown that the Spray fish is indeed false, and any other fish for that matter beit Cal Johnson, Len Hartman, Ken Obrien, etc...especially if the NFWFHF cannot substantially identify any imajor nconsistencies/oversightswithin the WRMA findings. My hope is that the NFWFHF is researching the claim further than just Detloff's findings.
My opinion here.... I would think going through the IGFA (or however it is abbreviated) would maybe be a better direction to go. There aren't any people that I know of directly from hayward on their staff to try and refute the findings...they could review the data/proof in an unbiased manner, and make a decision from there. The WRMA might have to go back to the lawton fish (I think they still recognize it yet) and work from there, but if the IGFA is less biased in any way, their credibility as a record keeping institution would be upheld.
Thoughts?

Location: The Yahara Chain | Steve the IGFA doesn't recognize Spray's fish because it was shot to land it...a legal practice in Wisconsin at the time. They recognize Cal Johnson's fish as the record. The WRMA told me they are evaluating Johnson's fish and they will send their report on that fish to the IGFA, also....assuming that it doesn't measure up.
In my opinion everybody should wait for the Hall's decision, which is coming at the end of this month. Way too much childish behavior going on around here. The WRMA is in a attack mode and the Hall hasn't even made a decision , yet. I don't understand their tactics...I feel they would have been better served to present their report and keep their mouth shut until a decision has been made. |
