Posts: 53 | I am currently researching job opportunities in Illinois and was wondering what region of the state would centrally locate a person to the musky fishing lakes. My geography is horrible I guess and I am not looking at a map. Could a guy work in Pike county and be near a muskie lake??

Posts: 326 Location: Plainfield IL | Rusty Goto this site http://www.frvmuskie.com/ On the left side scroll you will see a muskies in illinois link. Click that and goto 2003 Map of Illinois public access lakes stocked by the DNR. This will list out by county muskie lakes in IL Daryl

Posts: 53 | I am seeking a teaching job in a rural area with both musky fishing and deer hunting opportunities. I also have 2 german shorthairs that will need phesants, quail, and grouse to chase. Hoping to find a spot that isn't going to grow out of control in my lifetime. Michigan is dying fast, jobs are leaving the economy is dying and there is a house on every inch of habitat in the state. The only plus to Michigan is that the musky fishing is improving, but that is why there is summer vacations for teachers.

Posts: 135 Location: Elgin, IL | I'm from N.E. IL... and although there are some decent lakes in the area, for numbers I'd also recommend central/southern IL . Evergreen Lake in the middle, and Shelbyville and Kinkaid as you work your way south (with some others thrown in to the mix). And you won't find any quail in N. IL (and sporadic pheasant hunting )... but I've had some really good pheasant and quail hunting in the southern half from Champaign to Vandalia. So go south young man! Mark

| I would look at the Mount Vernon area...puts you about 1hour from Kinkaid and about 2 hours to Shelbyville...also you could get great deering hunting in the area. I would doubt you will be able to find any land in Pike county to hunt...atleast not on a teachers salary...You need to head south. Carbondale would be ideal...but maybe Mount Vernon would not be a bad place to look into...Ben | |||

Location: Minneapolis, MN | Bloomington and Peoria have relatively good local economy's and home appreciation. Probably the strongest cities outside Chicagoland. Bloomington is a short ride to MANY lakes that are currently stocked by the DNR. Some are younger than others. Peoria is not far from Mason county IL. I don't know if it still holds but there was a time when Mason County was a great pheasant destination. Edited by Luke_Chinewalker 1/4/2006 10:46 AM

Posts: 70 Location: Mapleton,IL | Lake X is all i can say and still keep my family safe! Just kidding, I only know for sure of a few strip mine lakes in the fulton county area, but working at a bait store i have heard of at least a dozen that have monster tigers. I fished one privite strippit this summer during a bachelor party bass tourment. Out of ten people fishing in five separte boats their were six different tiger encounters with two 40" boated by my boat and another boat. the weird thing is four years ago the owners son caught a 45" that is mounted. Last summer the same kid had a fish he guessed at 48" and thirty plus pounds. How can fish size very so much. I'm not a 100% but i think the lake has only been stocked with muskies once?
