| In view that a large part of the Muskie world has had a very mild winter (Little if any snow and above ave. temps )so far do you think it will affect the muskie fishing? if so How ?

| it's weird man, 16°C over here in Belgium. I think that pike will become more active again and seek for shallo water as I presume baitfish will seek the warmer shallows. Maybe it's the same for muskies? |

| My logs show that the more mild of a winter the poorer the fishing is in the up-coming season, I wish I knew why? I would be very interested in what the other pro's and fisherman that keep logs have to say about this subject[:((] |

| Mark my words,mild winter=tough spring fishing,walleyes included! Jeff [:((] |

| Well all I know is the weeds here in the Madison Chain are going to go nuts!!!! Last time we had poor ice cover the weeds didn't die back like they should and they were very think the following year. The newer fuller weeds definately hold fish sooner then if they were less developed.

| It's gonna be bad. Like fishing a carpet. Not looking forward to that.

| If the ice leaves early, and it probably will we should have good weeds for the opener. This should help early in the year. As the years goes on and if we don't have a hot summer it will make things tough. The weeds will be to high and hard to get your lure through. If the water doesn't warm up the majority fish will remain in the weeds and be hard to get at. |

| We actualy need an early ice out as 2 years ago our weeds almost got wipe out dut to a lot of rain in the spring coloring the water and not letting the sun in to grow the weeds. Last year the weeds were still pretty bad but I believe that was just due to the damage done the previous year. If we do get an early ice out it will help us get some weeds back.

| The 12" of snow we got in the Chicago area should do well to reduce the light penetration through the ice.
Some of the weeds should die off a bit. Maybe it is jsut a late winter? |

| One thing the mild winter will help is the lakes that winterkilled last year from the prolonged ice up period. It's too early to tell how the rest of winter and spring will be. Fall was pretty much a constant too so who knows. |

| Thanks a bunch John! There was Black ice on Randal road from my house to the toll way. Just had to do it didn’t ya. |

| Not to sound crass or rude....but who cares? Like if we have a tough spring we're just NOT going to fish? Get real, it's like looking at the weather forecast for a trip you've already paid for in advance....you're gonna go, fight through the tough conditions, and give it your all anyways.

| NWR: That pond by my house had some open water, it sure attracted a lot of geese for a few days, I am still holding that net for you

| Are you always crabby slamr? Or is it just an “on-line” thing? [] |

| Have a NICE day? Dude, I'm stuck at work, the economy SUCKS, and the ice is getting harder instead of softer.....and I'm in the process of kicking my porn addiction. You tell me how this is going to be a good day!

| The sun will come out… tomorrow… Bet your bottom dollar that… tomorrow …there’ll be sun… Just thinkin about… tomorrow… throw away your troubles and your sorrow…
[:)] |

| That seals it Nxtwrldrcrd....you can fish the same lake as me the same day....but never in the same boat. I wouldn't be able to gurantee your safety.

| I feel so honored. I’ll quit while I’m ahead; I almost made a comment about a link to your boat I once saw. I won’t go there, no true musky man would do that to another, but… you can follow me to the lake. |
| |
| The fact is... easy winter or hard one....we still are all willing to start pitching again.....better sooner then latter. |

| Slamr, don't fight it. Just click away to your hearts content. Heck trying to quite the porn probably adds to the nicotene addiction anyway.[] |

| Things will happen alot quicker this year. Last year we had the most prolonged spring like shallow bite I've ever seen on the river due to alot of runnoff and lots more rain through late may into June. Fish stayed up near spawning areas and shallow rocky areas long after they usually vacate most years, making catchrates alot higher in the early part of the year for a shore fisherman like myself. This year if things remain the same, it will warm up quickly, won't have much runnoff, and the bite will happen quickly, as Jeff said, not a good sign for prolonged early season good fishing on the river here. A good amount of snow and a slower warmup coupled with some spring rains would help my cause. One upside would be, the musky bite would be a little more advanced on the deeper lakes up north possibly, and we can get those surface baits out sooner!!! |
