Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | I saw DH BUC's boat cover post. I'm also looking for a new boat cover. My old cover is canvas circa ~1988. It's toast, it tear's if I even look at it and I'm sick of patching it! I got a 10 x 20 poly tarp on ESOX Maniac right now. It works but it sure looks tacky, so it's time to get a new custom cover.
I've read somewhere on this great big honkin' worldwide web that it's important to use a breathable material to prevent mildew during long storage periods. Is this true? If so what's the very best material? Price is not the issue, performance is my my main goal as I'll probably keep ESOX Maniac until I can't drag my old carcass into her to go fishing.

| Muskymaniac- the one I got from boatcover.com is a breathable type vinyl. Call there 800 number they will answer all your questions. I checked out alot of places and decided on them. Cover is great! |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I would take a look at a material called Top Gun. It is very much like the material used on Ranger covers. It is quite a bit heavier than a Ranger cover but it is litterally tough as nails. If the cover maker knows where to put vents in the cover you shouldn't have too much trouble with condensation. |

My cover material is one level below "Sharkskin". I can't remember what it's called but it doesn't breath and doesn't require any special treatments. The maker simply put 3 poles with recepticles that are vented and it works great. I've had more compliments on my cover than on my boat OR my fishing!

| Al..i have purchases a few new covers the past 3 years..here are my two favorite materials.
1. travel tuff... this stuff is nice...about the heaviest cover material out there. (i think it is the heaviest) Nonbreathable..the way i like it...wont tear/rip. Wont leak any water...super strong, durable. love it. keeps the water out.
2. Aqualon...not quite as heavy as Travel Tuff...but pretty dang close. Also non breathable..but i dont bass fish, so i like a nonbreathable cover. Aqualon comes in good selection of colors. Travel Tuff might only come on "grey".. but i forget.
if you GOOGLE either material, you can educate yourself. If you get something like Travel Tuff or Aqualon, you dont want it slapping the heck out of your console as you trailer your boat..have them put some "reinforcments" where the windshield is, so it doest scratch it up...
having had several covers custom made, most places to let you "add on" without bringing the price up..so tell you you want it doube reinforced up at the bow (where the trolling motor is) and anywhere else on the boat you have accessories, like trolling rod holders and such. they normally do it without charging extra...
