Posts: 2361 | Last weekend was fishing Sunday while a friend had drawn a permit for the wildlife mgmt area deerhunt around the lake. My son and I, on our annual excursion, boated three legals and our fish probably weighed more than my friends party deer for the group. No, our fish weren't that big, all between 34-36" but on the lake I fish there is a pretty good chance those three fish out weighed the THIRTY FIVE POUND FAWN THEY SHOT FIRST THING OPENING MORNING!

Bambi ( the movie)screwed up the whole deal, I think. Just remember, where Bambi goes, NOTHING grows.... Looks like December for the trip, by the way.

And, as far as the fawn is concerend, it's like Ted Nugent said at a speech one time, "You have not lived until you have tasted Venison with spots on it!" Hell, with little ones, the roasts are tender enough to cook as steaks.

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I gun hunted for 20 years. About 5 years ago I was sitting out in my ground blind by the Willow Flowage and was listening to boats driving around. That was the last day for me in the woods. I couldn't take it anymore. I just figured what was the point when I enjoy my time on the water and could take or leave sitting in the woods. The only part I miss is hanging with my Dad, brother and buds in "deer camp", but it had fizzled out the last few years and was only my dad and I. I don't get to eat venny as much any more but I managed to get some back straps in October when my dad pasted a nice doe on the way up north. Couldn't let that just lay on the side of the road. They were very good shis-kabobs.

Posts: 2361 | I used to be wild to hunt birds and anything else in the fall. Still miss bird hunting. But, can't do both the same day and my dedicated days get the nod for fishing at this stage in my life.

Posts: 32890 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Actually, many of us are serious hunters AND muskie anglers. It's only a couple months out of the year for bow and 9 days for rifle, and does present a quandry for many of us...to fish, or to hunt? It's a fair question, and an acceptable conversation point. This weekend, I'm going hunting. Also, it would be www.whitetailsfirst.com..

Posts: 434 Location: searchin for 50 | Was hoping to do both Fill up on the weekend and fish during the week. With the weather coming in I don't want to drag my boat up north and watch it fill up with snow . I am going to try and make it out the last two days down here in southern wis. Hopefully NO gale force winds like this last weekend. Cold I can deal with.
