Subject: Vilas Co???

Any news on the recent fishing (water temps, etc.) A friend and I were going to come up for the weekend but I wanted to see how the action was before we totally commit. 6 hours each way of driving and a hotel stay is a lot on a college "salary". Thanks in advance for any info, hopefully the weather holds up.

Water temps on a couple of the lakes we hit this past weekend ranged from mid to lower 40's. I think deer season starts this weekend so getting a reservation could be tough. I'd call first..

Location: Stevens Point, Wi.
I have never had a problem finding an open room, even with the deer opener. Have stayed in Minoqua and Boulder Junction and usually wait til i get there before finding a motel.

I was out on Tomahawk yesterday with temps ranging from 44.6 in shallower bay areas to 46 in open water. Sorry to say no fish to report. Getting reports of water around 40-42 on smaller shallow lakes. Snow last night colder air temps and high wind on the way for today and tonight. What the heck, sounds like good fishing weather to me. I'm aware of some good fish (45'-47") caught this past weekend. You should have no problem with finding a motel. Check with the chambers of commerce in the area you want to go. One big caution is to be careful at the launch ramps. I think you will find them pretty slick so a bag of sand in the back of your rig is a good idea just in case. I sure can't promise that you'll slay them this weekend but anytime you get out to fish (especially this time of year) you just may get a shot at the fish of a lifetime. BTW, for those of you who follow ciscoe movements I was still seeing them in deeper water but really nice pods of fish. They should move in anytime now that mother nature gives them the final clue.

Well I will say it was a pretty darn good weekend up there numbers wise thats for sure. One of my friends and I got into the area about 12 a.m. found a cheap motel in Woodruff woke up early saturday and put 8 fish in the boat (nothing real big but good numbers ) between the 6 suckers we had we went 1 for 12 on takes. The other 7 came on mag dogs. We got back to the hotel around 5:30 sat at a bar till about 10:30 then got up early sunday for a half day. Wind snow and some dropping temps didnt seem to turn the fish off, we put another 4 in the boat this time 2 for 3 on suckers and the other 2 on magnum bulldogs. Packed it up around 1 and headed back home. Nothing of any real size most fish were between 32-38 inches. Nothing better than seeing a 32 inch muskie with a 16 inch sucker stuck in its mouth and then realizing I should have tried to find some 2 footers
