| I make my own single strand leaders and will never use store bought ones again, but i am paranoid using 7 strand leaders. The crimp just seems too easy to fail (weak crimp/crushed strand causing weakness). How do you guys secure the ends on your homemade 7 strand leaders? specifically for trolling. Thanks. |

| Dave, I tie a square knot in mine + use a sleeve w/ a light but fairly snug crimp.....haven't had one break yet as the local stump tree population will attest to...BUT- I too am somewhat paranoid also![:sun:] |

you can test them by attaching them to a stationary object for strengh + check during fishing.... |

| Dave, I double crimp mine with two sleeves on each end. I also leave the tag ends long enough to feed it through the sleeves an extra pass. Never had one fail yet.

| On seven strand wire leader's I will twist wrap the end's the same way you would wrap a single strand leader with a vise grip. Make sure you have about 1/2 inch or more of wrap. Then put two or three coats of Super glue on the wrap's. The first coat will soak into the leader material and the second can be applied after the first coat has dried.
I have not had this unwrap or break (Knock on wood!).
I use to tie the ends and on some lighter pound wire I have had the wire cut into each other and break. |

| I do it the same way as muskyone but I only use one crimp on each side. Also have yet one to fail me. |

| I use a single crimp, have for over 20 years, and have never had one fail. They wear out, like any leader, but don't fail at the sleeve at all. I use linesman's pliers to crimp the sleeve. |

| hi. if you like i have a drawn out plane to help you tie your own and avoide the crimp if you so desire. i have not had any of my leaders fail at the nott. just e-mail me and i will forward the scan to you it will walk you right thrugh it.

| Thanks for the responses..i may have to try a crimp with a glued twist above it.LOL..By the way....i am doing this from my squad car deep within the north suburbs of Chicago. laptops in cars...awesome!!!!! kinda hard to drive and surf though. |

| I just logged on with the purpose of asking the same questions as Dave. Just bought some #60 sevenstrand. Steve please tell me what size crimps you use or tell me what to order and from where (Moore's, Rollies?)
Also, how many wraps do you use on this material- do you wrap like a clinch knot (5 times)? Promuskie, please send me your info- and tell me what software you used so that I can access the pictures- have had trouble with some things I get on email.
By the way, went to Fleet Farm for the 1st time- clearance prices, quite impressed. Thanks guys!

| I use the black sleeves that allow the leader material to JUST go through with the loop. I can't remeber the size. I bought tons a long time ago and keep them in a plastic container.
I am using 60#, so just find the sleeves that do the above, and you have it. I have never had one of these fail from the crimp, and have made literally hundreds of them. In fact, I have gone through a 1000 foot spool in the last ten years.[:bigsmile:] |

| I also use a double crimp on my sevenstrand trolling leaders and I also put a piece of heat shrink tubing over it to keep the fray ends from nicking my line. Later Troy |
