Posts: 507 | Audio of Dr. John Casselman's opening presentation from the 2005 Muskies Inc. Ed Crossman Muskie Symposium is available at: http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/radio.asp Dr. Cassellman is one of the leading scientists in the Muskie world and knows these fish as well as is possible today. The file takes a bit over a half hour. Have a ListeN! This is a memorial presentation regarding Dr. Crossman's work and one heck of alot more. There's great info on upcoming year classes on LOTW, what one can expect to be the largest fish encountered on many Canadian waters, what SHOULD be considered a trophy, and alot more.

Location: The Yahara Chain | Great info, Steve. Is there anyway to get the max. growth charts that Dr. Casselman mentions. I would love to look at it. I can't wait to hear the Green Bay lecture. Keep up the great work.

Steve, thanks for recording and sharing this for those of us who could not attend. It was great to hear such a touching tribute to Dr. Crossman. It was also interesting to hear Dr. Casselman's perspective on trophy size -- that perhaps we should view it not as some universal standard, but rather as a multitude of standards based upon the demonstrated capacity of individual waters to produce large fish. This philosophical approach fits well with my own desire to establish goals and measurable objectives for individual waters that reflect angler desires within the constraints of ecosystem capability. I look forward to hearing more recordings and viewing the videos as they become available. Dave Neuswanger Fisheries Team Leader, Upper Chippewa Basin Wisconsin DNR, Hayward

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Dave, I thought the portion of the presentation talking about upper confidence limits on the waters in Canada and the very small percentage of fish over the upper limit was very revealing. When we have the video ready those charts will all be shown. The concept that a trophy should be defined by the water's upper confidence limit really got my attention. That means a truly impressive trophy should be Slamr's 48 off of the Moen, Justin Gaiche's 52 off the river, and Keith's 44 off of Spider. All are equally impresive and equal trophies, because they represent the upper end of the muskies in each system. Excellent presentation, a great listen, and lots of big fish information there, too.
