Posts: 548 Location: MN | I'm heading up Park Rapids the 12th of October and plan to fish Leech a couple of days instead of bowhunting. What can I expect besides any kind of weather Nick

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If the fall is normal, the fish will be in the classic fall pattern and not too hard to find; problem on that lake is getting them to go. If they are HOT the fishing can be really fantastic. That lake can be mean in the fall, watch for coming storms carefully.

| Mr. Worrel what is the biggest fish you have caught out there in mid October? | |||

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Biggest for me in Mid October was 47". I used to be good friends (still am, jsut never see them much) with Ted Gwinn and Al Maas up that way (hence the warning that Leech can be very mean that time of the year), and as a result fished that water a few times over the years. Tommy Mac and I hit it a couple times in the Fall, too. I think I got a 46 with him, let me look. By the way, it's spelled Worrall.

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Here you go. My son Brian got a 50 fishing harbor mouths the same weekend, not real sure what the date was but it was COLD. Was fishing in Purple Haze, my 1990 Esox Deep V that year. I also used to fish that water for the Twin Cities event in September and a PMTT, and tried to get on it a few times each Fall as I saw my accounts in Minnesota. I intend to do the same this year. | Fishing on Leech in mid October can be very productive. Of course much depends on the weather. Water temps right now are around 62. We have some cool nights predicted and I assume the temps will go down. Always check the weeds, if they are green they will still hold fish. Right now the rocks are holding some very nice fish. They can be hot and cold, again depending on local weather. Some wind always helps. Also check the rocky shorelines. There is a lot of bait on the break lines now and I assume it will remain there. There is also a good perch bite in the Walker Bay narrows area. The muskies will be near. Hope this helps some. Good luck, Murph
