Anyone,

I've heard all the talk about the TopRaider and I have about 4: (blackbird, loon, parrot, black/orange coot). I know how great they are but I was just wondering what colors have worked the best for you? The color that seems to work the best for me is Blackbird.

This is a bait I love to talk about. Has turned many fishless days for my clients and I into days of success. Like the Buldawg, TopRaider color choice is a big factor. In the fall I make sure one person in the boat is throwing one 70% of the time. And on overcast days I my increase that to 95%. The last hour of the day someone in my boat is always throwing one, and I never use just one color, I keep changing as a bass fisherman might chance his jig or worm till the color pattern is established. In October of the past 2 years on more than one occasion color made all the difference. In fact I had 2 clients tossing TR's field mouse had 14 blow ups and bagged 5 fish while all other colors had zero hits. Then with the same guys the next day that same field mouse was shut out and babyloon and blackbirds scored 6 blow ups and 3 muskies. Later that same week field mouse produced 7 other fish up to 45 inches. While fishing Wisconsin this past June a custom orange TR scored 15 blow ups and caught 7 fish, 3 over 40 for my wife and I. We threw a lot of other colors only to have 3 blow ups and 1 small fish. For years I thought that color didn't matter much with topwaters, in fact black was the only color I used but my experiences this past 3 years I have found that color is a very important part of these lures. Here on the CAVE most all colors have had their time and place.
