Location: Ames, Iowa | I have to be in Eau Claire for a conference October 13, 14, 15. I was there last year and checked out the river very close to our motel. Are there muskies/northern/smallies in there, or are there any other places to fish close by?
Thanks,
Don

| There are some muskies in the Chippewa River. I don't know much about the population though. Lake Wissota is just north of Eau Claire in Chippewa Falls and this lake has good musky fishing and the possibility of a trophy. When you're in Eau Claire, check out Crazy D's Tackle, one of the best musky shops around.

Plenty of muskies and smallmouths in there. I've fished the Chip a ton, although not for about 10 years now. Can't imagine much has changed. Are you staying downtown or out on hwy 12? I'm guessing you aren't bringing a boat. Are you going to have a car at your disposal? If so I can mark a map of a few places where you can park and make a few casts, and send it to you. I've caught a lot of nice muskies from shore there. Email me if you're interested.
Regards,

| Check out Jim Falls or Lake Wissota. Wissota has a decent population. |
