Posts: 1335 Location: Chicago, Beverly | Evinrude E-tec, the 200 is available in two models, the regular one and the HO. E-tecs are supposed to be lighter and more fuel efficient then a comparable 4 stroke. Supposed to be more fuel efficient then other 2 strokes. The ho has a bigger block(200") then the regular one(158") and as such the ho weighs more(509lbs) then the regular one(419lbs) | ||

Posts: 22 | I have a 2004 johnson 4 stroke 200hp and love it! It's a real camel on fuel as long as you don't get too heavy on the throttle. Even loaded with 4 people, coolers and gear it doesn't seem to be working hard.Starts easy even when cold and very quiet, at 3500rpm you can hold a conversation just like your sitting in your living room. I would do it again in a heart beat. It's on an alumacraft tournament sport 185. That hp is the max for that boat I'm glad i went with it. | ||

Posts: 32951 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I run the Opti Max, and will be ordering a 200 and a Pro kicker for my new Tuffy 1890. Great motors, and a good company behind them. ALL the new 200s are well made, so it becomes a personal decision like Frod/Chevy. Shep, easy, I already have 2 F150s!! | ||

| Had a 200 opti was a nice motor till it blew up one month out of warranty. Fought merc's awesome customer service all winter to at least help a little bit. So now I bought an e-tech so couldn't pass up the 7 year warranty. Not that i didnt like the opti i was just rubbed wrong with merc's customer service. Jeremy Van Ert | |||

| Merckid's name says it all. What else is he going to say. Suzuki and Yamaha have run away with the 4-stroke technology. These two companies are heads and shoulders above the others in the market when it comes to technology and quality. Suzuki has become the player of these two companies though. Nothing against Yamies, but from experience, Suzuki is the name of the game. The new Evinrudes have become a player as well, but lets see if they hold up. They have not been on the market that long. Prior to 2005 Evinrude/Johnson 4-strokes WERE Suzuki. Just change the color of the motor. If you have a Suzuki and need a prop, just go to the Evinrude/Johnson dealer and get the same size prop and you should be good to go. Yamaha made the Mercs power heads for their 4-strokes as well. | |||

Yamaha doesn't build most of the Merc 4 strokes any more, those are built in house. I see very little technonogical difference, all three are well made. What's the specific attributes that are advanced about the Suzuki over the Yamaha and the Mercury? Reminder: Absolutely NO product bashing is tolerated here. Talk about why you like you engine brand, discuss why it's better, but don't bash another brand, please. I cover the PWT and FLW all summer and have seen every brand out there have troubles leaving a Pro and Co Angler out on the water at weigh in time, so please keep in mind they ALL are going to have issues now and again. To make your point please list WHY your selected brand is better, hard facts like price, extended warranty, free prop, warranty issues as a percent of total sales, advanced tehcnlogy, etc. A warranty is a warranty, right? If the Warranty is expired, it's expired. How long should a warranty period extend because someone wishes it to? A month? Year? Forever? I know when the warranty on my F150 and my GMC before that and the Ram Charger before that was up, it flat was UP. I lost a tranny on my GMC about 800 ( for me, less than a week) miles out of warranty, and paid full boat to have it repaired. Buy warranty extensions, those are offered on most engines. I know I get an offer to extend the warranty directly from the builder on several products I purchase each year, and immediately do so. | ||

Posts: 284 Location: Fishing the weeds | Most two strokes nowaday's are just as or near as quiet as the four strokes. 2 strokes are also alot cheaper to maintain. Power to weight ratio's are far and away better than 4 strokes simply because they fire on every stroke and have less moving parts (that wear out) to rob power. And weigh alot less. Most if you look at the data have lower emissions than 4 strokes. Seriously considered the E-TEC however, as in most cases it came down to price. Even with E-TEC's rebate, MERCURY Opti/Pro XS was still several thousand less. Just my observations. Pat | ||
