| I have had some bad luck this year with reels, and the other day I noticed I had some left over Bass Pro Pete Maina reels from when I used to be sponsored by them. So I spooled them up, and the last ten days or so we have been putting them to the test. I have to say that they have all held up great, and am really impressed how smooth they still are. I guess I had forgotten how nice those reels are. If you are looking for a decent reel in the $90 price range, they are perfect. Make sure you get the 5.2 to 1 gear ratio though.
I will be trying out some ABU's in the near future too. Thanks for all the responses last week!

| I have 4 Bass Pro Pete Maina reels and have been using them for 4 or 5 years. I don't fish 5 days a week, but they definitely get some use.
I have never had a problem with them. |

| I have two. they are great thumb bar reels. The reels are made by Okuma for Bass Pro shop. As Chad said get the faster retrieve model, the slow retrieve is useless for most muskie fishing. |

| I used mine for a year and the thumb bar kept popping up in mid cast.
The drags are nice, that's why I use them for trolling reels now.

I havent had that thumb bar problem with the newer design. The older (black reel) ones did that often. |

Location: Toronto, ON | I have Calcuttas, Abu Pro Rocket's, Abu 7000's, and BPS Pete Maina reels.....my best casting reel is a 5 year old, black Pete Maina reel--VERY smooth, it casts a mile and the drag is awesome--BPS Reel Repair sent me some carbon fibre drag washers a la Penn HT100's, and that has improved the reel that much more. Chad & company are right, get the 5.2:1 gear ratio!

| That's what I've got, the older black ones. They worked great out of the box, then the bar started popping up right in the middle of the cast. Sounded horrible. Never worked the same after that. Nice drags though, so I put them on trolling rods.

| OK, let's get this straight. Cady was the one with PMTT issues !!!
I caught one in my 6th PMTT and placed us 12th at Eagle River that year. Oh, and by the way, I reeled that baby in with my Bass Pro Reel =o) |

Location: Toronto, ON | A tip: if you call BPS (http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.CFPage?appID=40&option=2&cmid=SITEMAP) and ask them for a 'drag upgrade', they'll send you for a few bucks, washers that appear identical to the Penn HT100's and having used them all of this season, they are fantastic! Drag pressure is way up and they're definitely smoother than the stock washers.
