Location: north central wisconsin | Yes. In fact my last trailer had that chronic problem. I went through a few sets of tires trying to fix the problem. I have since gotten a new trailer for my boat, as the last one was undersized for my rig. The load was too heavy and somehow caused the wearing of the tires in an abnormal fashion. Low air pressure can also be a culprit, and tires that look fully pressurized are sometimes very low, so periodic checks are important. My axle was bent on the trailer from bumpy roads with too heavy a load. I had my axle straightened and stiffened and that helped for awhile, but it eventually became warped again, and a new axle was needed(that I never purchased). My tires actually wore not only on the outside, but the outside was the worst. Having radial tires on your trailer will often help too, as the non radials will show this type of wear much sooner as well. |

Location: Woodridge, Ill | Yes, I have the same problem. It got real noticeable last year when I towed my boat from California to LOTW. Man was it bad. What we did was have the tires rotated on the rim, you know, switch the outside from in and vise versa. This gave me more life on my tires. But ya, mine is due to a slight tweak in the axle, and more than likely insufficent tire pressure. But I check them regularly. Local towing out here does not show much wear in them though. |
