I would like to have some of your opinions on my problem. In May, I purchased a "brand new" Johnson 9.9 h.p. 4 stroke. Was on the 11th hour, yes I said 11th hour, the motor broke down. It has been in the shop for over 5 weeks now. Last Thursday the EXACT words that came out of the mechanics mouth was "your motor is JUNK". He said while he was running it, the motor squealed and froze up solid!!! Now Johnson says they will send him the parts to rebuild the motor. I did not pay for a rebuilt motor, I payed for a brand new motor!!! The mechanic tells me he is so far behind that he doesn't know how long it will take to get my motor rebuilt. I have allready missed some of the best fishing of the year and have no idea how much more I am going to miss. I have talked to Johnson and they say they will NOT replace the motor or give me a refund. Will I be able to trust this motor even after it is rebuilt?!?!? What would you do????

You will probably be getting a new powerhead, as 'rebuilding' a seized 9.9 powerhead is unlikely to be a warranty choice by the builder.

No outboard company will replace the motor or refund money, fixing it in accordance to the written warranty is standard proceedure.

Sure, you can trust the motor once it's done, and the warranty should still be in place for it's duration. Once the warranty is expired, you can trust is as much as any motor, new or otherwise.

new powerhead is essentially a new motor..... Steve summed it up pretty good I'd say..
