Why does almost every lure made now have those blasted rattles? Are there any depthraiders,or burts and ernies available without rattles,or is there a safe way to remove these rattles without destroying the lure.I've just been in to many situations where i think the rattles put the spook into the fish.
When i catch a walleye, panfish or sucker i don't hear them rattling all the way to the boat.some of these lures are unbelievebly loud,I NEED SOME QUIET,SNEAKY STUFF.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Almost every lure in the catalogs i have say's "rattles" or "now with rattles".

I HATE rattles!!

Find that little bastard, drill a hole in the top of the bait, and glue the freakin thing in place. Fill in hole with epoxy.

If Im not mistaken There is a depth raider made specificly without rattles that was exclusive to Rollie & Helens,,seems the local guys felt rattles spooked fish in the fall,,you might call RH,,,
some baits if you drill a hole on top then squirt some superglue down in, that will quiet the rattles, you seal the hole up with silicone, I know this worked on the old 9 inch grandmas

I feel the same way about rattles, Rollies does have a few bait's without rattles, they should be able to hook you up, other wise try drilling the rattles out this also works.

I HATE RATTLES!!!!!!!!

I still have a few of the original Depth Raiders without rattles and they consistently out produce any thing that has a rattle.

I hate rattles except in really dark stained rattles. If you can't find the bait without rattles, there are several custom bait makers that recreate just what you like without rattles (if you can't just easily remove them)

Thanks guy's,
Looks like like i'm off to plastic surgery school during the next week on the lures i already have,i'll do some more intense shopping for the QUIET ones also.
I too think rattles have their place but not 1/4 oz steelys ,i think about 5 bb's would work better, maybe i'll try it during surgery.

I would suggest the SHARK Cranbait from River Run Tackle.Available in both floating and sinking versions (my fav). It hands down is the best crank/twitch/jerk bait I ve ever seen in my Musky guiding career. The action that can be produced by this lure is unmatched. Period.

I love rattles...even in clear water...feel free to send me all your unwated believers, grandmas, jakes, depthraiders..etc.. that rattle... i'll dispose of them in a proper way..lol... I will agree a little bit though..some rattles seem too loud for certain situations....

Drill a hole in the chamber were the rattle is and then use foam insulation in a can to fill the bait, It will run out of the hole but that is ok! Wait until dry and trim off access, No more Rattle!!

Just did up 4 of them last night, some i just took the rattles out and sealed with plastic weld, and the others i filled with foam and then sealed, gotta wait a while after you foam before you can seal though, interesting how i foamed my depthraider and it sqeezed all kinds of water out of it,must of had a small leak somewhere.
Now i have to get them down to the water to see how the action is on them.
