I have a 1969 7.5HP mercury that the pull start won't engage the cylinder to turn over. Anyone ever have to tackle this project before? Just wondering if I can get away with doing it myself or if I should take it in yet again?

Pull the cowl and look at the 'dog' that engages the starter. See if it's worn down, and how easy it would be to get at with the tools you have. If it looks like it'll be tough to fix, it probably will be.

There is no indication of any" dog" in there. I tried to take the pull start coil off the top and it appears the nut is locked down? I think it's safe to say time to get it into the shop. Oh well, atleast the water is gettin up close to 80 degrees here in Northen Il. So I wouldn't be fishin as much anyway!
