Location: Fonda IA | I was wondering what kind of success you had with gold colored blades on buctails and spinnerbaits.I see alot of company offer copper blades but the ones's with gold are fewer.Also clear or overcast and water clearity.I would think that gold in clear water most days would be a good choice.Thanks Blummer |

| Hi Flower,
I've had wonderful success on gold blades. I have Ron Douglas at Crazy "D" Tackle make my bucktails with three blade colors. Silver, copper, and gold are my three main stays. Give em a try.

Location: Holly, MI | I don't run gold and greatly prefer Copper blades. Don't have any good reasons except successon copper. I suppose if I ran gold it would work too. If I'm not throwing copper blades then it is usually white blades. White always seems like an attack color. I think they want to kill those white blades. |

| On very clear trout water my experience has been silver works better on sunny days and gold on cloudy days. I do not have much experience with copper.
That said, after dark I have done very well with a magnum silver blade on spinner baits but i think it is the thump, thump, thump and not the color that is key there |

Location: oswego, il | We have had great luck on gold blades with gold or brown bodies in norhern lakes with clear to a slight stain especially. The more stain, the more copper and flourescents seem to shine over gold but it still works there too. |

| It would make sense that gold colored blades would be a good choice on most lakes given they have a sucker forage base. Suckers are very brown in coloration (usually) and the gold flash gold/brass blades do a good job of mimicking them.
Then, of course, you can use the general rule of thumb: clear water = silver blades, stained = gold/brass blades.
On Lake of the Woods black/gold Mepps worked well for us. A lot of guys use gold bladed spinnerbaits on LOTW, too. I think it boils down to personal preference and most of all, CONFIDENCE. |

Location: Holly, MI | I had a fish hit a lure today that almost took the rod out of my hands.. literally!
It was a GOLD..(actually copper)..1 oz red eye wiggler spoon. She rocked me but managed to not get hooked. Only musky action of the day for our boat.
