Subject: Ranger 618vs vs 681vs

Hello. I know the new 618 model is a little wider and longer than the discontinued 681 model but I would like to hear from guys who have owned both of these models and find out which model you prefer and why. Is the 618 a lot heavier than the 681 and do you notice it trailering? Is there much difference in how they handle rough water? Is one a lot smoother riding than the other and do you get a lot dryer ride in one than the other? Also how do they compare in top end speed with say a 135 Optimax on the 681 compared to a 150 Optimax on the 618?

Thanks
John

I'm curious about this, too. Anyone have experience comparing these boats on the water?

I have a 2004 618vs ranger w/ 125 merc. brought new in April 2004. I love the boat and motor. Top speed for me and one other person is 52 mph (trimmed up) (ground speed on gps). I'm guessing with a 135 optimax you would get avbout 56 mph. (not really worth the extra money). I get great gas milage from the 125 2 cycle. (goes to 2 cylinders under 1800 rpm, great for trolling.) It's an great musky fgishing boat. Low enough to fish muskies easy yet high enough to handle 4-5 foot waves. The removeable front section is nice to have. I also would get the back casting deck extension (your fishing partner will thankyou).
I never owed 681vs sorry i can't compare the two. But you will not regret buying the 618vs.

Forgot trailering. I tow with 2001 jeep 4.0L with no problem. The trailer brakes really help. The only problem is the gas tank is under the front deck 26 gallons which icreases the tongue wieght. But still tows really easy.
