This is probably an old idea. It would seem money well spent if there was a fund to offset the difference in cost between a skin mount and a replica. I will bring it up at the next muskies inc. meeting but thought I would put it out here to see if other chapters or organizations have tried this already. If people want to kill a fish because it cost too much to get a replica, why not take the cost out of the equation. I don't think you would be talking about huge money when you look at the amount of musky fisherman/ members and the amount of kept fish. hj

Lax Taxidermy is on the right track, charge the same no matter what you do, thus telling guys that you might as well toss it back.

My hope is that sooner or later Taxidermists will charge less for repros.

Couple comments on this

First our club offers $100 to members who present receipt for a replica of a >45" fish.
Second I have a buddy who dropped off a 41" pike at Lax's and when he picked it up it was a replica. He was told that that was all they did, when he questioned them about it beinga rep and not a skin mount. So then why would Lax accept a dead fish??? Anyone have or hear about any similair experiences??

the madison chapter of muskie's inc has a yearly contest in which they give away 2 replicas - 1 for fish from WI and 1 for fish caught out of the state. any fish over 45" is entered in the contest.

Sounds like the idea is out there. It isn't advertised enough to have the impact that is possible with a program like this. I would think each taxidermist should be alerted to replica funding oprtions. Maybe muskies inc can get a general fund going instead of individual chapters.

Joe Fittante also charges the same for skin mounts as he does for replicas. I think it is a great idea.

As Mike said, the Cap city chapter funds two reps a year. I was fortunate to win it last year and my 52 incher costed me 80$......I think the difference will pay for my membership for quite a few years!
