Subject: Minnekota 80 PD Trolling Motor

I have an 18 foot boat. Originally, wanted to attach a 101 pound thrust bow troll motor, but found out that I couldn't get a 20 foot cord with a 101. For whatever reason, I hate that big, bulky, short cord.

I'm thinking about down sizing to a 80 pound thrust.

Any thoughts? I want to be sure I can push the boat around on big wave waters like Pelican, LOTW, etc.

Will 80 get the job done?

Thanks, MK

80 should be plenty. I have 65 on my 17 foot boat, and I could troll with it if I wanted to.

I have the 62# AP on my 19 1/2 foot Alumacraft -- I have been able to manage
some very bad conditions on Mille Lacs, Leech and Vermilion, but will be upgrading
to the 80# unit, just for a little more control on those BAD days.

The 80# unit should be more than enough for your boat.

I have a Crestliner 1850 with a 65# PD. I fish Pelican ALOT. I also fish LOTW for a week in the summer. This setup has never failed me under any fishable conditions. An 80# thrust will surely be enough.

We have a 65# Minnk. on our 16.5 crestliner superhawk and it moves the boat just fine. Of course they say overkill is better. We our going to upgrade to a 80# in the near future.

I have a 74# Minnkota on a Lund ProV 1900. Works well for me on LOTW.

I have a 74# on my 20' 7" Ranger and don't have it much past 50% unless the wind is really howling. 80# ought to do nicely I would think.

Go ahead and upgrade to auto pilot right away and consider the univeral sonar and co-pilot upgrades also. They are great features.
