Does anyone here make their own bucktails??? I am going to try making my own and i was wondering what componets work best to make a better lure. Any tips or hints would be very helpful. Thanks

We started making our own bucktails this year. The first were a little rough, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. We purchased our components from Moores Lures. Dick Moore was a great help for a first timer. We started using dyed bucktails, but also used various dyed fox and grey squirrel tails. I started by dissecting a few bucktails I liked, and then put together a spreadsheet of parts needed. There are minimum orders on the components, so I think I ordered enough components for roughly 50 bucktails. We built a jig for bending the wire.

It isn't that difficult and you can create what you want.

If you would like, I can e-mail you the spreadsheet or attach it in a post. Do you have excel?

I have been making my own for about 10 years. I get my wire from Rollie and Helens, I get all of my components from Dick Moore.
Once you figure how to tie your material( I use maribou) it is easy.
