I hate home run cast, do I make them from time to time, sure, but GOD I HATE THEM.

Fish get off on the homerun cast, you can't work your baits correctly with bomb casts, you keep your fishing partner off good water with bomb casts, ect....

Short casts, 25 yards I would guess.

Depends, clear, calm and cold = long casts no matter what bait you are fishing. Sometimes you cannot avoid them. On average for most 20yds./60' is effective range. i myself tend to fish alittle further then that with great success!

I would also say about 25 yards. When they strike closer to the boat, your hooking percentages will be better than when they strike out in the next township.

I'm with E-Dan and Hulbert on this one. I found that, with glide baits especially, I can't get the right action when they're casted too long. Too much slack line also allows spinners to fall deeper before the retrieve begins, allowing them to flop over the leader causing a mess and fouling.

25-30 yards is what I try to keep my casts to, unless I have a prop topwater.

Yeh, 25 yards or sometimes less. It is easier to hit pockets and such. I don't even like trolling with more then 50 ft, of line. Later

I agree with shorter casts under most conditions. I do go with longer casts in both clear water and shallow water. The other time I am not afraid to launch some real bombs is when I am working topwater. The additional retrieve time on these rocket casts gives me the chance to try all my "triggering tricks" if one would "hump up" behind the bait.

I've lost a lot of fish in the past on the hookset due trying to make the longest cast I could make (at least that's what I attribute it too). There's just too much slack in the line with hail mary casts. 20-25 yards is what I try for.
