does anybody have any experience with eagle claw laser sharp hooks in 4/0 and 5/0, and how do they compare to a vmc hook, do they stay sharp longer? easier to sharpen etc etc, just wanted to know what everyone out there uses and what they like and don't like.

I use them both, the Eagle Claw are sharper and penetrate easier but the VMC heavier and more secure. Depending on the lure and the hookset I need, I decide which set to put on and I use them both as replacement hooks. I replace the stock hooks on most of my lures with these brands and I have no complaints, they are simply awesome hooks!

Lazers are my hook of choice for several reasons. They have a conical point that doesn't slice like angled points. Regular angled point hooks can slice on the way in. One would think that would make it easier for a thrashing fish to throw? Drawbacks; conical points are much harder to sharpen. A diamond stone seems to work best, I generally perfer to change out rather than sharpen. My next reason, and some may disagree, is the almost circle-like design of that point. I use 5/0 lazers on both Dawgs and my own soft plastics and have found a "no hook set and reel the fish to the boat" has worked for me so far, but I'm still experimenting. Last is the ease of cutting, their thin wire design makes them fish friendly. Fish don't bend hooks, anglers do.

I also open up the gap slightly by squeezing the bend with a regular pair of pliers or my leatherman

I use the Eagle Claw. I like the thin wire becouse it penetrates with less force and as was said before, easy to cut and the only way you will bend one is to horse a fish. I make a lot of my own cranks and have tried them all. They are sharp out of the box, just stuck one in my thumb a bit ago! One bit of advice, and it is free so it's worth what your paying for it, if you have a lure that does not have splitrings cut the hooks off and put them on. When you have to cut a hook on one that does not have rings it is hard to put a new hook on. There are other reasons too. Later

I like/use eagleclaws, but tend to like the #774`s. Its been the best hook for most applications for me!(hard to get though) The only thing I use those curvie point things for are suckfish`in! And with good results too!
