Posts: 89 | Now I'm getting scared . . .how crowded or pressurred is LOTW (NW Angle) in July? Having never fished it - is it like Northern Wisconsin on the July 4th weekend? Are there boats all over are guys "waiting" to fish spots how bad is it? Looking at the maps it seems like there is sooooo much water, there can't possibly that much pressure . . .or can there.

Location: Minneapolis, MN | You are right, there is soooo much water. There are also many many very popular spots that consisently produce fish. You will find boats on these spots in July. Edited by Luke_Chinewalker 1/17/2005 10:49 AM

Posts: 1939 Location: Black Creek, WI | I've only been to the NW Angle once... but have been to other sections of the lake several times. Is there pressure? Sure. Is it on the same level as Wisconsin waters? Somewhat. What I mean by that is this. Look at the CHS Map. Circle all the obvious looking structures that fit the textbook description of a "good" musky spot. How many do you count? 100? 1000? Now think about how many people travel to LOTW to chase muskies... and how many of those will be there at the same time as you? 100? 1000? Who knows really... but I bet the numbers are pretty close.... so you can bet that if it looks good on the map... you will have competition for that spot sooner or later. The good news is that the "pressure" seems to congregate in certain areas.... so if you don't like a croud... there are always places to go on LOTW. I've spent days where we'd never see another boat... and other days where it seemed there was a boat on EVERY spot you wanted to fish. Sometimes this happens in the same areas too. An area that was crouded yesterday might be a ghost town the next. Wierd. Does this "pressure" hinder my desire to fish LOTW??? No way. It is so big... its still gotta be one of the lowest "fisherman per acre" lakes on the planet. LOTW may not be able to guarantee that your spot of interest will ALWAYS be open for you to fish.... but I think it is capable of guaranteeing that there is ALWAYS a good spot left open.... you just gotta go find them sometimes. jlong Edited by jlong 1/17/2005 3:14 PM

| I have been fishing the NW Angle now for 3 years each July. I have noticed more pressure each year. However, if you cannot find a spot to fish where there isn't a boat, you have big problems. So many spots, so little time. | |||

Posts: 155 Location: Watertown MN | Esoxhawk, Was up over the 4th last year and the pressure seemed no different than the 4 week of July. I think you will find more pressure as you get closer to a group of camps, and the folks don't travel that far, try to head away from camps and you will find less pressure. Good luck Troyz

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | One thing that I have done to help save time and gas is carrying a good set of binoculars to check a spot for competition from long distances. This may save more than a mile of travel. Edited by Steve Van Lieshout 1/17/2005 4:49 PM

| Most of the resorts are full with muskie anglers for the month of July. That totals about 180 anglers. That is a lot of pressure. It is getting worse. Back in the late 70's and 80's the only boats you would see were Bill Sandy and Doug Johnson. Look at the Red Wing Lodge number in 96 every 40th fish caught was reported to be a 50 incher, now it is every 80th. Yeh this is Sabaskong, but indicative of what is happening to the fish population. | |||
