| I would like to know what you think about a guide or lodge offering a big fish guarantee.
Would it help you to book with the guide or lodge knowing they are confident enough to guarantee big fish?
What kind of guarantee would it take to help you book with them versus another lodge or guide?
I would also like a few people to e-mail me to discuss this a bit more and get their opinions and ideas.

| Say you set your mark at..43" as the big fish needed in order to have to pay the guide.
And the guide works his tail off and gets the client a 40,40.5 and two 42" muskies.
No I dont think there a person on site that thinks 4 low fortys fish is a bad day.... |

| If you offered a guaranteed 40" fish or a 50% refund. I'd jump for that in a second...in fact I'd pay more for the opportunity...for example if Walking Eagle said that he'd take me out for a day at $300.00 no guarantee. And Flying Eagle daid he'd take me out for a day at $400.00 and guarantee a 40" fish or I'd get $200.00 back I would go with the $400.00 guy. |

I think what your proposing is a great idea! However the term big fish would be relative to the area being fished. You should expect a lot of option from other guides. |

| First there are to many varibles in the way of offering a fish guarantee,much less a big fish guarantee.One does't know what the barometric pressure or overall weather will be ahead of time to know if the possabilities of even a catch are very good or nill.What I do though is I call people and let them make the choice to fish or not to fish,in those periods of prolonged high berometric pressures where the fish shutdown.I can guarantee only that I will put forth the best effort to make your day on the water one to remember and will do everything possible to try and put you on fish. I ran a different deal... I guided mostly 1/2 days so I would set up two 1/2 days and sell it as one full..Thats two times and weather periods and a couple more hours..Helped alot to make sure folks caught fish..They would pick a June day..and an Aug or Sept. day. They would learn more on the two different times of the year too.
And if they still hit it bad..I took them out for a couple more hours in Oct..on me.
Customer satifaction...is the key...[:bigsmile:] |

| Just my personal philosophy,but I think guaranteeing big fish is going down the wrong road.I feel the sport should be promoted and built along parameters other than just size.We seem to be creating a situation,whereby, every guide,weekend angler,etc, has failed unless he produces a 50" fish every day.All of us are fishing for trophies, to say otherwise, is self delusion. I Only fish on lakes that have that potential, but, dammit, I just hate taking people out that have some ego thing going about size and dont appreciate the sheer beauty of the places they are fishing,learning new techniques, working with lighter tackle at times,taking time out to laugh, or apprecaiting the strengh and fighting ability of any Muskie.I had a lot of so called big fish in my boat this season, but somehow they arent the things or moments i'm remembering pleasantly over the fire this winter.Big fish come along when they come along if your on the right water with good technique, but Ill be G**dammed if its the only or most important aspect of our sport.Your welcome to those that think it is. | 7Islands, what you say makes an awfull lot of sense as some of us would rather watch someone catch a big fish then do it ourselfs. But one must see the light and right now when it comes to muskie fishing bigger is better with most anglers.
I know of a few guys that last November went fishing a different body of water to catch a couple of fish a day with 45 inches been the max but I was on the big river trolling for one fish a day but a 35 pounder. I only caught 3 fish ( + 1 dink ) in 5 days of fishing but would do it again as I wouldn't trade those three 35+ pounders for 10 to 15 smaller fish.[:sun:]
It is up to the client to deside, if he wants numbers go with a guide on numbers waters and he wants big fish go with a big fish guide.[:praise:] |

| How about offering the fish guarantee with a non refundable deposit, I use $80/day (US) (to at least cover the expenses) [:0] Still a great deal! |

| Hi Rich, I personaly don't see how it's posiable to guarantee fish let alone trophy fish everytime out, especially if your fee decides whether you can pay your bills. Remember, it's still fishing and there's lots of variables that can happen. Maybe it's different where you guide or maybe your guiding income is not your main source of bill paying money. I feel, when we guide someone there's more to just putting clients on fish although that is important, but they should also learn different areas and technics, your knowledge and time is worth something. I guided a criminal attourney a couple of years ago that asked if I guarantee fish, I explained to him the only thing I can guarantee is that I'll do my best and give him the best shot at boating a muskie. I then asked him if he offered a gaurantee to his clients that he can win every criminal case, he smiled and said, I see what you mean. I also totally agree with 7Islands opionion on guiding. | As someone who occasionally uses a guide, I would love some type of guarantee. With the nature of Musky fishing I would be saving my self some money.
I think what needs to be taken into consideration is why are you (or anyone) are contemplating using a guide. The guides that I have used have been more to learn to body of water that I am fishing. I have yet to catch a fish with a guide so a guartantee would be great, I have, though, caught numerous fish on those same lakes, hitting the same spots the guide showed me weeks after the fact.
With that being said, I would probably go with a guide who has an indepth knowledge of the body of water over someone with a guarantee who might not be as qualified.
All things being equal, I would jump on the guarantee.
