Hello,
I have one, and more on the way. I received it at the end of the season and was able to only use it once. I must saw that it is an awesome bait. Great paint job and has an awesome action. I am really excited about using it over the spring and next season; along with the others. For the baits effectiveness, the last fish of the season followed the bait to boatside then smashed the sucker. I would recommend a trade.

divini,
I'm trying to make a bait of my own right now out of a block of wood. What tool do you use to get the thickness of your lure and stuff to carve out of a block of wood. I have tried using a jigsaw it doesn't work too well but I'm goign to try a new blade tomorrow hopefully I can pick one up. How do you put action into the lure also, Because i'm going to make a jerk bait. I want it to have some action..

Ksauers,
Here is a link to a picture of some of dirks jerkbaits. http://geocities.com/markhou68/dirkjerks.html
This link describes his jerkbaiting style if I remember correctly.http://geocities.com/markhou68/dutchjerkbaiting.html
I have one from the left side, a shad style and Dirk is sending me a cobbs looking one(right side of page). The one I have he made for me larger than usual, It is about 7inches. I believe he is also making the other one larger for me.
I did not get to use the bait much at all only one day, but it does have a very nice side roll. It can do tons of things actually and I have not figured out yet what I like it to do best. The bait can be twitched, cranked, ripped. Cant's say much more but ask Dirk and I am sure he will be happy to share any specific info that I do not know about the bait yet.

Thanks kly for answering some of the questiosn for me. I've been unable to get online in the last few days.

esox14: I use a wood-rasp to shape the lures and I saw them out of wooden boards of beams of the thickness I want for that lure. Like cobb's I make of 3cmx5cm thick beams. I saw them out using a small electric machine with a flat metal plate for botoom through which the saw-blade cuts vertically. Works great. I used to mess aroubd with a handsaw but that's way too much work, and a difficult job to saw them out right from the first time. If you need any tips, just ask. -I'd be happy to help. The action is achieved by the leading and the position of the lead. For gliders I drill holes at 1" from the tail and 4cm from the head for a 6-7" glider. For divers that depends but at least 3-4cm from the nose and for hybrids like a striker, about 1/3 or 1/4 of the length from the nose.

Ksaucers, I can't build them right now, as I said, because of my exams until the end of januari. But by the end of februari (or a little earlier) you should have them, promised.

happy hooker, I don't remember sending you one of my lures. Which one is it? Only 22 and my memory is a blank! Help!! LOL

If anybody wants to see pictures of my lures, check out these sites:
www.lurebuilding.nl, click on the camera icon and check out lures made by divani. For the english version click on the english flag (sure hope this post wont disappear like my other one did!)

www.tacklemaking.com, go to "members creations" and check out the lures made by divani. I can also send some pics if anyone wants to see them

Divini:
These gliders look really nice, I'm trying to make something like it but I probaly won't accomplish what I want to. What exactly is a wood rasp, and how do you get your colors that neat on the lure. Do you trace stuff first then paint in the lines? Thanks alot.

esox14: a woodrasp is exactly like a wood-file but covered with small sharp teeth (like a muskie's top jaw) that cut away at the wood as you pull it back and forth over the wood (just the same as you would do with a wood-file). An awful lot of 'wood', don't you think??

I use spray cans to paint them and the patterns are applied with a stencil that I cut out of cardboard. I just lay that flat on the lure's body and spray it.

If you need to know more, just ask.

esox14- Check this out- probably more than you ever wanted to know about wood rasps.

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22wood+Rasps%22

Then again if you're serious about making your own lures there are numerous Internet sites you can access. Try- http://www.tacklemaking.com/ or http://www.out2llunge.cjb.net/ There are also numerous sites on woodworking, carving etc. Making your own lure is a facinating experience- especially catching fish on your own lures.

Painting is an art that has to be learned. It's the same basic process as creating a painting, i.e., you add layer by layer as the detail gets finer. First base color- then sucessive layers as you add detail to the lure. Patience is the key here- don't rush. I have found excellent stencils in various everyday materials- mesh materials, either plastic or metal can give you scale details, etc. Even as Divani say's, he makes stencils out of card board. Be creative- it takes a little practice to create a perch pattern. Crappie is easier. Check out some of the Air Brush painting web sites- very valuable painting tips with some hints for incredible detail. Then again some Muskie lures you see are like nothing found swimming in the lakes & rivers that Muskies swim in. Figure that out! [:0]

Once it's created you have to tune it so it behaves the way you want it to! [:(] "A Question of Balance"[:p] - " You can tune a piano, but you can't tune a fish" [:sun:]

Good Luck

Al

Divini is there a site that shows how to do all these steps and in the end, end up with a jerkbait? I know not everyone can just make a jerkbait, but I would like to at least give it a try. To someone who has never done it before sounds pretty complicated[;)] [:p]

esox14, if you like to build a certain model or type of jerkbait (glider/diver/slider), I can guide you through it step by step. And on my own site, www.lurebuilding.nl, we will do just what you are looking for in march. Then I will explain one or two of my models. You can already view three crankbaits on the site. Just click the english flag, then go to the icon of the mann's crankbait and click on one of the items. Twitchbait, straight lure and jointed lure already have some explanation.

Happy hooker, nope that one isn't mine. I never make lures with holographic foil. Don't like them and never took a single fish on them. All of these are gone, traded away.
