Location: Athens, Ohio | I have a Pete Mania 6'6" MH rod from BPS, it came apart on me while jerkbaiting last weekend. I'm thinking about gluing the two pieces together so that won't happen while fighting a fish. Will JB Weld work, or is there a special kind of adhesive I should use? thanks, m |

I don't know if J-B will retain enough flexibility; it's extremely tough and strong but it may create a stiff spot in the rod that might become brittle over time. You may want to investigate using a bit of Flex-coat (what I use to coat guide wrapping thread). I don't think it would take much and you would most likely retain the flexibility, action and sensitivity of the rod. I'm by no means an expert, but I think that might work. Maybe just some hot glue as if you are putting on a rod tip???

| I'd mix up some 2-ton, 2-part epoxy, and let it cure. I've done that with several spinning outfits, and it works great.

| Just send it back for a replacement...I have done that before with no problems.
I love those rods but the butt weight breaks off no matter what...I just electrical tape it in place and that works fine. |

might not be a bad idea to try some of that marine goo...i think thats the name at least. i use it to seal up the screws for my transducer pucks on the back of the boat. the stuff seems pretty strong, and it will maintain its flexibility. its pretty cheap, and you can get it anywhere. just a thought.

Location: Athens, Ohio | I called BPS, only one year warranty on the product and they don't want to see it again. I'm thinking Gorilla Glue, but want to keep in mind the flex issue. Keep the ideas coming, for now, and I'll fish it tomorrow and just keep checking the fitting. m |

| 3M makes a new, more water resistant duct tape that is a charcole/black color--would like mighty fine on the Maina series and woudl be flexible...
Seriously, I would not use JB weld or a non-flexible material--all you should have to do is use the handy-man's secret weapon, really fine masking tape or something on the joint to tighten it up, or a touch of flex coat If memory serves, you those Maina rods are pretty flexible and JB weld or cheapo-epoxy could screw up the action of a rod you like. |

Location: Holly, MI | I'll bet you bought a 2 piece for a reason. Don't do anything that can't be un-done.
Clean both pieces real well with a little rubbung alcohol and try them again. Nothing like clean for a tight fit.
If that doesn't work try a little wax on the male end. It will be sticky and snug but won't make it a one piece rod. The softer the wax is the stickier it will be. I'll bet you know somone who waxes their cross country skiis or a snow board, not many surfers in your area I don't suppose. I casted a rod tip pretty far once. Gives the others in the boat a pretty good chuckle.
I remember when we used to have to add lube to the old metal ferruels so they would come apart period. My buddy used to rub the end alongside his nose for a little facial oil, claimed it worked great. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | Yeah, LOBI, my dad used to run the rod ferrel thru his hair to grease it up enough to come apart. Actually, this was the first muskie rod I bought. It was 'on sale!' and being a two piece rod never was much of an issue. I think I will try the wax idea first anyway. thanks, guys, very much! m |
