Posts: 305 Location: Illinois | I own one that is actually a saltwater lure. It is a countdown mirrolure with a killer color scheme. I haven't caught a fish with it yet and frankly have never caught a fish on a crankbait that has a metal lip. When do these types of crankbaits shine? What are the diferences in action vs. plastic and metal lipped cranks. Any insights? hj

That may be most likely due to the fact that my favorite ones have wide plastic lips and have great thump while trolled. The bait you mentioed above has a narrow lip and a tight wiggle with less vibration. I do not so as well with them. There are some wide lipped metal baits but I have not given them enough time.

| my best crankbait results come from the big 9" cisco kids. day or nite, they produce more fish for me, and i throw ALL the brands of crankbaits! keep throwing those "metal-mouths", you'll get fish on them! steve | |||

Posts: 240 | Metal lipped baits are some of my favorite lures. I have used magnam raps, Samos and crazy cripplers with great success. I find that these baits really shine when speed trolling them between 4.5 and 5.5. I have also done well casting them. Real fast or give hard rips when casting to reefs and such. Give them a good chance and they will produce. Regards Cory

| Just picked up a salt water metal lipped Magnum Rapala with an awesome color scheme in Key West, and I can't wait to try it. The advantage and disadvantage is that you might have to tune it. Like Steve said, that is mostly an advantage. The plastic lipped cranks that I have certainly seem to take their share of abuse and keep on ticking. | |||

Posts: 585 Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | I have had a lot of luck with Party Crasher (Hellbender type lures) lures trolling. They go very deep and have very good vibrationi. I also purchased some Hi-Fin Trophy Divers with the "Niagara lip." They go VERY deep. I believe between the great depth and flash (from the lip itself), they are great fish-catchers.
