Hello, new here and this is my first post, greetings from the UK

I was planning on buying a St Croix AM69HF but after speaking to Ritch at Pastikas I don't know. He thought I should buy a fig rig and explained that when offered a choice in the shop virtually all customers picked the Fig Rig. He assured me this wasn't due to the $100 price differance but due to the quality, feel and action of these new rods.

Can anyone comment

Cheers, Will

Will,

I have 3 of the original Fig Rigs and they have been good to me. I personally like the light weight/feel and the way they load up when fighting a fish. That being said I have sold all but one of my St. Croix's.

Now my Fig Rigs are different than the ones they are selling today. The ones I have were suposedly built on Cortland Diamondback rod blanks. The models they offer today are not. I have seen but not used the two different price models Fig Rig offers today and I was not impressed with the change in the finish work but that may be astetics and not performance related.

Here's the bottom line on my .02 cents worth.

If you are looking at the $90-100 Fig Rigs I would suggest you buy either the Fig or an All Star.
If you are looking at the $200 Fig Rig I strongly suggest you buy an original Cortland Diamondback either from Thornes or Rollies.

Best,

Mark Hintz

As Mark states above the blanks Fig Rig uses are not the same as they started with. Other than that I know nothing much about them. St. Croix on the other hand I know alot about. #1 They've been around and have this rod thing figured out. If I'm not buying a custom I'm buying a St. Croix. And that said if I'm having a custom made I'm having it made on a St. Croix blank. Why? I've only had a good experience with St. Croix and believe that they are the best at what they do. So much we hear about people that do change things, do things bad, wrong etc... ever hear that about St. Croix?

Service - Compare this alone and you've found the best company of all in my opinion. I slammed my rod in my own door and they took care of it in less than one week when I shipped it in and didn't charge me. That spoke volumes.

ANY question you have on the rods can be answered at www.stcroixrods.com

Thanks for the advice lads. Think I will stick with the St Croix allthough someone has said if your paying all that postage why not buy both and sell the other. Not a bad idea.

Cheers
