well guys let me get steve a break this week. well how did everybody do this weekend.
i was out with toddm today we had a blast. it was a ton of fun. let me tell ya. todd got a dink and i missed a mid 40"s and he raised around 5 other fish. day was good till a friend of mine had called my cell phone and guess what my fingers were wet as i was trying to switch hands it fell in 12 feet of water. and my friend was talking to a buntch of fish. and we had lunch with steve(muskyboy) and kevin and kevin left me a ton of messages that i could not answer. well good thing for insurance. but i lost all my contacts what a bummer. but todd kept me laughing and made my day better......thanks todd.....bill hope to do it again <in the crestliner> also good going steve on his fish and kevin got a good looking 40 keep it up guys

Well, Steve and I did not see many but we made do with what we saw, I got a 40" Musky this morning and Steve had a 37" fish saturday. We only saw a handfull of others besides those..Both of our Muskies were very girthy so they seem to be feeding well right now.. Ran into Brainsx while we were out there, he had he had some on saturday, I forget the exact numbers or sizes he had.. sounded like he had a pretty good day though on saturday..

Bill, thanks for being such a gracious host on such short notice. It was alot of fun and I hope to do it again. Hopefully you will have the new boat soon. At least the dink did not skunk us, unfortunately for me, the smallest fish we see all day is the one that bites. That afternoon sun was a blessing for us and fish activity. Since you fessed up on the phone, I can't post my joke I thought up for it, only the four of us would have gotten it. Something about charlie the turtle calling me, wanting you to call him cause you left somethig at the lumber factory.

That voodoo doll of kevin is pretty cool, you know the one with the little lure that you cut the hoks off of.

made a long weekend up north hitting a few different lakes starting at about 12 on thurs. Fish weren't super active for us all weekend...we had action from 11 fish, of which only 4 were follows. 2 hits that I miffed, One hit a bulldawg and I set the hook but with all the clothes on I engauged the freespool....bulldawg came back missing a big chunk of plastic. The second hit was the hardest hit I have had yet on a Triple D. The fish hit on the pause going the other way. I hit the fish hard, in reaction to not getting the rod yanked out of my hands, and STILL didn't get hooks in it. one 43-44 inch spit my bulldawg at the boat, on video..ouch. Brad got a ~18 incher on a big granny bait...go figure..I got a 40 on a triple D and a 36 on a bulldawg. Saturday was abolutely misserable weather!!! Did manage to get a 41 on a sucker after we thought the fast rate at which we were drifting was pulling out line on the sucker..more like a muskie.

I think water temps ended the weekend at around 48F-49F on Sunday morning.

Fish were off structure. Most came from deep flats related to structure in the 20-24 foot range. The flat that was most productive had what I call sand grass, also a lot of suspended baitfish in the area. Other spots were fast breaking points or deep inside turns.

Here is the 40 and the 41...can tell why we thought the wind was causing the sucker line to go out. Was a fun weekend despite the weather...had some good boat partners, food, fishing and beer!

We managed to tough it out this Saturday in the cold and the wind! Sure glad we did though since my buddy Brian managed a 39.5" Tiger and I boated a 44". I have to hand it to my partner who committed to, of all things, a Top Raider thus putting us on an unexpected pattern. We had 2 other strikes on top from big fish without hookups.

Got up at 5:00 to pick up some friends and head out to Lake of the Woods. Trailer got a flat just as we were leaving Winnipeg. To make a long story short, we got help from a towtruck driver who lived near by and gave us a used tire and put it on our rim. Almost called it off but still went. We got on the water at 12:30 and had a great day. Three muskies and three pike. The muskies were 36,37, and a elephant of a 48 incher. All caught trolling a Salmo Whitefish in a blue/silver pattern. Also caught a 30, 35, and 39 inch pike. For only half a day it was amazing.

Regards

Wow--we battled 30mph sustained winds w/ 40-50mph gusts Sat on the Barbee chain w/ air temps in the 40's and light rains--but it was well worth it. All fish were on the bite--On Sechrist I popped a 36 right off the bat followed by a missed sucker strike then a 30 followed by a 30 inch northern then my sucker went off mins later only to hook a seven pound largemouth that fought as hard as a ski. Over on Sawmill later on I stuck a 40 followed mins later by a 39 in northern. My partner boated a small northern, a 40 inch ski, and had an upper 40 come up twice gills flaring but missed the bait. Fun! Sun was much nicer out but pretty dead, fish-wise w/ Randy boating a nice chunky 35 on an HR (that snapped off into little Barbee a few casts later--ouch!) and both of us seing just a handful of fish all afternoon/eve. A 47 (slender male but nice) was boated Fri am on Tippy as well by a local guide. Most guys I talked to boated a fish or two out on the chain last weekend--40 being the largest. Slow but taking the baits for the most part when contacted. Turnover should be this week. Water temps are mid 50's with our cooler weather and much colder nights. I imagine the big bite is a week or two away......

I think some lakes may have turned over already down there based on the green junk on the surface on Big barbee, seems to be the only time I ever see that stuff.. Brainsx, nice meeting you over the weekend, based on how you did next time I think I will head out with you and let Steve take my boat out hisself..lol.. Man, you had some action compared to how the rest of us did...
