Hi,

After reading all the reports about the Triple D, I was thinking of finally getting one. But I was wondering if the size of the bait is a bit too small for fall musky fishing. Most guys are using 10"+ baits like Jakes so I could always get another Jake instead. Also, I was wondering what colors are working best out there? I was looking at the orange sunburst one and was wondering if orange sunburst is mainly for stained waters. My waters are pretty clear and I usually throw natural colors like perch and black. But maybe at deeper depths, firetiger or more brighter colors are better.....any opinions?

Triple D is coming out with a new lip design that will cure the break off problems...they are not too small for fall in my opinion...Try one out!

Muskies don't swim around looking for 10 inch bait that is for sure....Crankbaits have caught a TON of fall muskies....and the Triple D is no exception.

I throw a lot of Jake type baits in the fall as well...but the Triple D is great for working fast breaks...gets down...it twitches and pauses and maintians its postion forever!!! Awesome fall triggering.....I like the Depthraiders if I am grinding rocks that are known to cause snags just because the Depthraiders have a better chance of backing out since they are bouyant.

ERC had a bad run on lips from what I heard and that problem has been addressed. For clear lakes I personally like the flash of the silver shiner (I think that is what its called). The sucker is good to as is the perch for perch based lakes. I have been also throwing the bright ones on sunny days at times.

It is just a tool...but it definately is a different tool then a jake...so if you have some jakes I would at least get one of these....

DDDs are great trolling baits (very under rated in my opinion), and smaller baits will do just fine. Lil' Ernies are another one of my favorite fall trolling baits. Depending on the system you are fishing, I might be trolling Legend Plows and 13" Grandmas, but for most bodies of water the smaller lures consistently produce.

Definitely not too small for Fall fishing! Attached is a pic of a fish I caught last year on Nov. 15. I fish a lot of clear waters and like: Black Shiner, Perch, Shad (old color version), sucker, cisco. All right, maybe I should just say I like all of the colors!

That's a slob buddy. We share the same taste in outboards.

Great post, Cory. Bang on. Bouyancy (lack of) is a great part of the DDD. Fishes deep.

Two biggest documented skis up her last fall were in the 55-60# range, and ate straight DepthRaider and 8" Jakes. A third took a 10" Believer. Get something on a fish's nose, she'll take it as fast as a bigger one. Don't forget that our current ON Record ate a bait the size of your ring finger.

I just got a new Triple D from MRG in his Northwoods Cisco pattern. Haven't thrown it too much yet but it looks great in the water!

I've got three and I notice that mine have a tendence to rise when "suspending".
Pretty tough to get a bait to actually totally hang, i understand. I've thought about adding a little weight to the center hook. Anyone else had to do that or noticed the "rise"?

I found that fitting either 3/0 eagle claw 4x hooks or 4/0 2x hooks balenced the lures perfectly with my leader. I can't tell if they're slightly floating or slightly sinking now, so they must be pretty close to perfectly suspending!

All mine except a non painted blank suspend on the money...I'd play with the hook size as noted in the last post....

I have had a riser also. I went to bigger hooks, problem solved.
