My son does Ice creel census work, and tells me there were a few loonie tunes out on the rim of ice on East Horsehead today. 1 Pike for the effort. No way am I going out there on less than a good inch...

Guys at work said there were a handfull of brave/stupid soles on one of the bays of the Chetek chain this weekend.
Reported 1-11/2inches...

Not me...I'm as itchy as the rest wanting to get out but not that bad...

It hurts more looking at open water and not being able to chase musky's.

On my way out to an accident by Rosholt late yesterday afternoon I caught a quick glimpse of 4-5 guys out on Jordan Pond. There can't even be an inch of ice on there yet?!?!

The ice here in Mauston WI is just thick enough to support the ducks & geese. Anyone stupid enough to step off from shore is probably going to join the polar bear club. LOL - be safe.

Spent the last few days in the dells area and delton had about 30% skim ice. I would wait untill it is 2% rather than skim.

Smaller shallow waters in the south central UP have 3-5" of good ice. Not sure what yesterday's bit of rain did to it, but I'm betting it's all froze up now. Heading out this afternoon!

Central Wisconsin backwaters are 2"-3" of ice and the walleyes are real shallow.Last night had 17 flags with 4 eyes on the ice and 3 JUMBO perch! The hardest part was the entry from the land/to water, once out ice was good! Jeff

Although none of you guys will likely be fishing my lake, we've got 4-6" now on Scugog. Today was also the opener for ice fishing in the Kawarthas. Seems the action was pretty slow, but a post on a local board said one guy C & R a 20lb muskie :)

Cheers,

J.P.

No Ice on the Niagara River or Lake Erie yet, water temprature now at 37 degrees, the first time the water temprature has been above 32 degrees by January in the History of record keeping on Eastern Lake Erie. Most likely there may be no Ice fishing here this year, may have to go to Chautauqua Lake,NY or up North to Simco.

10 to 12inches on pewaukee, was out last night cought some shorties up to 14 3/4inches. bait nabbers. two cars drove from smokies east to big lake, those were the first i have seen on the big lake. rocky point area has two heaves that have been active all season. that is the worst area on the lake. west end has been good, dnr launch has been closed axcess is tough. smokeys west launch is busted up due to heavy traffic last weekend, fishing has been good, muskies and northerns were plentyfull last sat. the northerns are comming back on pewaukee due to catch and release practice that is catching on. people are learning from us musky fisherman keep it. CPR!!!

Ice on pewaukee is getting bad, there is a open stretch of water south of lakeside point about 200 yards long ( north to south ). ice was 8 to 11 inches saturday with some cars and trucks still pushing it. under these conditions a atv is a must. Took a friend out friday night and had 14 flags - 8 walleyes and a 35 inch northern made it up on the ice. the walleyes were 13 to 14 3/4inchers. The northers was released to fight another day. Saterday was not so hot took 3 friends out and only cought 9 shorties that night. best times have been 5pm to 11pm.
