Posts: 305 Location: Illinois | 4 times this year this year this has happened to me. I take a long drift against the wind and come up empty. As I am passing the prime spot on the drift (the spot on the spot) I decide to drift back over it with the wind. Withing the first 5 casts... bam, fish on. I know that these fish have seen my lures as I did not change up presentations nor depth. Maybe it is a different casting angle but I can't help but think that turning off the trolling motor had something to do with it. Has anyone else had a simlar experience. Any thoughts on the phenemenon? hj

| Current. Muskies are river fish. Watch how they position themselves in relation to current. S | |||

| Fish lie with the nose into current. Going against the wind it could be you never got the bait close enough for them to see it any time at all. When fishing with the wind you were drifting into there faces and just maybe they got a better look at your bait. I am one of those that always likes to work with the wind not against it for just that reason. That make sense to you? Pfeiff | |||

Posts: 122 Location: Pittsburgh, PA | I generally try to go with the wind whenever possible, using the tm only for contour control. I agree with the nose in the current theory. Rich D

| Thanks for the responses Steve and Don. Truthfully, I usually choose to work against the wind becuase of current. I have always thought that muskies position themselves facing into the wind/current. When I am casting into the wind and retrieving my retrieve is coming back with the current. I am not even sure what I said makes sense but it seems more than a coincidence. | |||

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I like to pull the boat into the wind when it is too strong to be able to slow the boat enough with the dift sock. One more good thing about this technique is that if there are weeds on the spot it is easiest and the least amount of fouled cast because the way the weeds lie down with the current. If the wind is not too strong I do perfer to drift it.....the less trolling motor noise the better I feel....I guess it all depends on the spot and the wind....sometimes it just won't work to let the boat drift.
