I've got a Crestliner 1850 with an Evinrude 150 Ficht, both model year 2003. Loaded with gear, half tank and two adults, I barely hit 44 mph with the stock 21 pitch, three blade aluminum prop. I've talk to others that state the same type of setup should be getting me into the low 50's. Granted a SS prop may help, but I can't see picking up 7-8 mph just by adding steel.

All speeds are measured with GPS, full throttle, full trim, RPMs around 5100/5200 or so. Highest speed attained so far was 48 on dead calm water by myself with no gear.

Am I expecting too much with this setup?

I had the same set-up but with a 150 opti-max (same technology as the ficht).

I had a stainless, unsure of the size, got 52 alone GPS, best i ever got with 2 adults, full gas,2 full lakewoods, all the rest of the gear was 46.7 MPH.

I was on lake of the woods, making a longggggg trip and kept playing with the trim and had her maxed out there.

Stainless would get you from the 44 to 46, but thats about all that rig will give you loaded, sounds like you are set up OK.

5100/5200 RPM's sounds a smidge low for an empty boat, but Ok loaded. Empty boat you should be at 5400/5500.

At work now, did some checking...

I remember we started with a 23 pitch on mine, salesman at the time boasted the boat should run upper 50's ( I give him crap now that we are working together). We couldnt get the RPM's, ended up going all the way down to a 19, thus losing top-end, but maintaining peoper engine running RPM's.

I found some crestliner speed data:
It doesnt list Ficht, but has HPDI and Opti,
150 HPDI with a 14 1/4 X 21 Stainless 51.6 MPH EMPTY
150 Opti with a 14 5/8 X 19 REV 4-52 MPH empty.

I had the 19 stainless, but it wasa 3 blade, not REV 4 and got the same speed.

depending on the Ficht diameter, you would be a 19 or 21.

good luck

thx much.

Thanks for the info Greg. I certainly didn't choose this boat to go fast; just thought it may be capable of more.

FYI - WOT on the 150 Ficht should be about 5200 RPM.

A Ficht mechanic I recently spoke with recommended a 4-blade 23 pitch 14 1/4" prop, aluminum or SS. He thought I should get at least in the low 50's. Fully loaded I'm only hitting 42 or so. I think I'll give it a shot.

Thanks again!

dpratt- I've got the SS 14 1/4 x 21 on my 150HPDI, 2002 1850. Mine was a demo boat from Yamaha and I was told lower 60's mph with an empty boat at the time of purchase. Fastest thing I have seen is 54 (GPS) at 5200rpm. My aluminum gets me around 46-48. All aforementioned speeds with 1 person and 1/4-1/2 tank.

A stainless steel prop and a hydrofoil will help.
