OK...just to get this straight...the Manitowish Chain is on the CD...with contours right?

I'm thinking of buying the CD now and uploading it onto a chip for my Map176

Gander - That was my impression from the info on their website. I should get mine in a couple of days because it shipped today. I'll let you know.

I just bought it last night....we tore into it right away. Yes, the CD does contain contours for the Man Chain and LVD. It seems as though the Chip does not. As of now I have to buy the CD to get the Lakes I want and a blank chip for my Map176...that's another $40.00 out of pocket.

My Tech Guru is delving deeper into this mess as we speak. After we see what's happening between the chip and CD, I'll report more. Guru is looking into LOTW too.

Alrighty...I got the CD and it's definately different than the Chip.

So far I love V5...tons of new maps. Absolutely worth the 99.99. (70.00 with the 30.00 Garmin mail in rebate if you have V4 HotSpots). There's no unlocking with the Central version, so that's one pain in the butt eliminated.

If you're looking for specific lakes before you buy it....holler, I'll let you know what's on it and if it includes detail.

I have the older version of the fishing hot spots....4.0??

I have been keeping it on my laptop and using a garmin76 plotter, then downloading waypoints and tracks onto the software on my puter after a day of fishing.

I recently bought a garmin 182 that is mounted on my boat and got the maps off my computer via a 32MB card.

I have a Ram ball on my bow so I can keep the unit up there and follow the contours for casting breaklines. I also have a Ram ball on my dash for running the lake and trolling.

I was fishing Cass last weekend and have to say I am thoroughly NOT impressed.

following the 15' contour line is actually 25 feet, cut-ins, points, breaklines arent even close.

Is the NEW central U.S.A chip more accurate? I have canada/
Minnesota and Wisconsin unlocked already, but if the NEW chip thinger is more accurate I cough up the coin.

Is there a calibration I can perform? Maybe thats why it's so far off?

Greg,

The new chips are to be alot more accurate...we'll see this weekend when I get mine out for the first time. Remember accuracy, or lack there of, may not be because of the mapping Software, but satellite reception. I'd say if you're happy with V4 (yes, that's what you have), you'd be more happy with V5. Remember, Garmin is offering a 30.00 rebate for registered owners of V4. All you do is send in your serial #, you get to keep the CD!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news to all you guys with GPS units that use Chips. I got this email from Garmin this AM..................

"Thank you for contacting Garmin.

What you are seeing is a difference between the card and the CD. The CD has
"additional" detail on many lakes--these won't be on the card:
http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/reclakesCentralPopup.ht...

...the cards just have the detailed Fishing Hot Spots Lake, listed at the
bottom of the web page for the Central flavor:

"The CD-ROM version includes both U.S. Recreational Lakes and Fishing Hot
Spots maps for the Central region, while the data card version offers
regional Fishing Hot Spots maps only."

Have a good week!

Thank you again for your interest in Garmin GPS. Have you seen our online
Map Viewer? Preview the basic data in many of the MapSource products
firsthand.

Best regards,
Loy "

Maybe Garmin better start including blank chips with thier units!!!!!!!
