Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Hey Gander or anyone else using these Tell me about the light grey ones. I think they are the 65 million modulous or whatever? Seem very nice, light, thin, strong, fast action, etc.. About $80, seems pretty fair.

Posts: 34 Location: St Cloud, MN | Hey Lobi- Maybe the gander guys will know for sure, but those rods sure do resemble shimano compre's. they have the carboloid tip, are pretty lightweight and have a nice action. the only reason i didn't but one is; they don't offer the high modulous model in 7' 6". seems like a good value! jo

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | There's a IM6, IM7 and IM8 The IM6 is dark with blue wrapings...ok for 50.00 (too whippy for me) The IM7 Guide Series is the one I think you're looking at, Grey with red wrappings...nice rod for 60-70. The IM8 Pro Select is the nicest one we have. All Black, great backbone, strong and reliable. about 70-80 bucks. I highly suggest the IM8, if you can find a sale on them (which during the summer we have them on sale more than off sale) you cant go wrong. Is it as nice as a St.Croix, No, but you can buy 2 for almost the price of 1 Premier. Edited by Gander Mt Guide 7/23/2004 8:53 AM

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | At the risk of chastisement, I like using a little lighter tackle when fishing. We fish way too long and hard to catch a fish to get it in the boat as fast as we possibly can. I live for the fight, not the picture, and don't want to end it too fast. This could possibly be an alltogether different post I suppose. Let me say that although I gannot guarantee, as can anyone because we cannot follow the fish forever, that I have had an absolute 100% survival of every fish I have released, However I am sure that i have never killed a muskie. I spend as long as it takes to revive a landed fish and cherish watching a fish swim away strong. I also have never left a lure or hook in a fish including lost fish. Any lost fish have been to shaken hooks. So the tackle I'm using is not so light that the fish cannot be brought successfully to the boat to be released. My favorite rod for trolling is an 8 ft Penn Sabre, graphite, 12-20 pound test line rated. It is light enough and fast enough action to really see what is happening to the lure behind the planer board. I run a pretty light drag when trolling so the fish can scream off some line when it hits. My hookset is aided by thumbing the reel. I tighten the drag as needed during the battle to effectivly bring the fish boatside. Speaking of behemoth gear, I even use my Shimano Calais spooled with 30 lb power pro for casting the light stuff like #5 mepps and small crankbaits. I hope I havn't wizzed off the heavy gear guys too bad. I'm just being honest, this is the way I think and fish. Perch, walleye and bass guys are constantly releasing muskies on St Clair with their light tackle. Sure they lose most of them to bite offs but ocasionally get lucky with a line that stays clear of the teeth. I'm surely not even close to that light of tackle. That being said will the tourney series rod in a 12-20 lb test rod do the trick for my style or would you think the bazillion modulous is just to fragile or thin walled?

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | My thought was they're too fragile, but if you want to try it, it's a great rod, go "give her" and give us a report on how it works. I have an Abu Torno looking for a rod, maybe I'll follow suit.

Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Lobi, I have an IM7 in 7'6" Great rod for bucktails, twitching minnow baits and light topwater. I have an IM8 in 7'2"...Great rod for all of the above but this one is also able to work Slow Tease (Suick on steroids) Undertakers, and a little larger topwaters.

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Ok here is the scoop.. I bought the 7 ft Tournament series in a MH Fast action one piece (line wt 10-20) GSX-54 High Modulus. Here is the best part, sorry to tease you guys...$39.95. Gander by me is going out of business, fishing stuff all 50% off. Only saved 30-40% on archery stuff. It is a little light for anything over about an ounce and a half but it sure is nice to match the rod when you are throwing Mini Buchertail spinners, Mepps 5's, Rapalas, My famous 1 oz gold Red Eye spoon, etc. I think I'll go throw a plug around the yard right now. he he

Posts: 11 | Hey Gander, I am also looking for a new stick and the IM8 pro select sounds to be right in my price range. What are your policies as far as warranties on them. Thanks.

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | 2 years or 1 50", whatever comes first! ...Seriously, 2 years, but we dont have a problem ever taking back a defective rod as long as it has our name on it. Lobi, great deal on that rod, that's cheaper than I can get it for.
